I have just had an email from a young man who is a committed Christian, and is in torment because he feels the Bible and Christianity and Homosexuality or Bisexuality are incompatible.

I have sent him the link to http://www.truluck.com and asked him to come here as well.

I know we have a number of committed members of various faiths here (please can we ignore sectarian issues and concentrate on the underlying faith [thus if you are Christian I don't really care about the difference between Mormon and 7th day Adventist, for example]). What advice can you give my new friend, please?

If one is a committed Crhistian it is unusual to keep searching for a different church. That God makes no mistakes is clerar, and I have told him this already.

The Bible has issues of mistranslation. To be sure of these one must be a classical scholar of Greek and of Hebrew. Most of these mistranslations were made with the prejudices of the time they were translated. The original text was written with the prejudices of the time it was created. The issue is in the interpretation, and the ever present need to set it into a current context.

If these is a God, and I happen to believe there is one, and if he made us or caused us to be created, and I happen to believe he did, then he made us in all our forms for purposes of his own. I refuse to beloeve that this was for his own wilful pleasure, though have trouble reconciling the dicatators like Hitler, here. I simply beloieve that he is benign and open to a discussion with me at the right time.

Christian faiths are run by men. I think it is essential to remember those facts. I believe that the men who wrote the Bible and those that run Christian faiths were inspired of God, there is no doubt in my mind about that fact. However, I also believe God doesn't inspire people word-for-word, God inspires people through ideas and ideas are open to interpretation by imperfect humans. Don't believe what the Bible says or what your church says just because that is what they say- pray and ask God YOURSELF and he will tell you the answers that apply for you in your life.

James 1:5, a scripture commonly quoted by my childhood faith and one that I find very important, says "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed."

Ask God and ask in faith and you WILL get an answer. I can testify to this fact because I have been where you are now. I was Christian and I was questioning my sexuality, I tried to work out which was right logically as much as I could but it just wasn't getting me anywhere, so when I found myself in an environment where I could feel Jesus' love most strongly (it was a church activity for me) I just said a prayer in my head, although more than a prayer, I was virtually crying, yelling out to God in my own mind, begging for an answer. And I received one, words came into my mind and I felt more peaceful, I knew it was an answer that had to have come from God.

Although this is extremely personal, I feel I can share it with those here, the words for me in regards to my sexuality were, "It is something you need to go through". Now that didn't give me a definite distinct answer, God doesn't work like that, he likes us to work things out for ourselves, but that is the answer I received and one that I am trying my best to live according to in my life. It is my personal answer and I don't know that it will apply to anyone else, but I think you should pray yourself and get your own answer.

God will answer you if you really want him to.

I can sympathize so totally. There are no instances where God says he doesn't love me. I think that one day, you just have to say, "Hold on a minute! I'm a good kid" and decide for yourself what you're going to believe.

Jesus said, "Judge not, that ye be not judged." You have to live your own life doing the best you can. God made you. God loves you. Going on my experience, I had to just stop listening and start thinking. I was scared at first but somewhere along the way, peace just let me believe in myself. I so wish that for you.

Here's a little story that kinda helps:
A Kindergarten teacher was watching her class draw pictures. She walked past one little girl and asked what her drawing was.
The little girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
The little girl smiled and replied, "They will in a minute."

That's the key, I think. No one knows......we have to make our own peace. My God is a loving God who cares for me constantly. Yours is too.
