College is good. Well, at least THIS College is good. It is full of some of the most supportive people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Also, it has allowed me to sit back, far away from home, and reflect on differences between here and there.
I find it interesting that for so long I considered my tiny little hometown to be “normal” or at least correct in its general views. Removing oneself from such an environment for an extended period of time does wonders to one’s outlook.
Also, I’m pretty sure I mentioned this before, but I am a Cinema major here. My last two projects (of three, total) are VERY personal and examined the issues of “coming out” and the desire for conformity, respectively. The great thing is that I have this awesome professor who a.) immediately read both films correctly (a difficult task, it seemed, for most students as both projects were rather subtle) and b.) fiercely encourages such courageous endeavors, not to mention the fact that he is quite personable.
The real test will be when we have our little “student film festival” and both projects get screened in front of everyone. *grimaces*
I guess, then, that the point of this post was to simply say that my first year in College has totally and completely kicked butt. I hope the same is true of others, and I wish the same for any High School senior of this year.
I suppose I just felt too good to keep this to myself, especially at three in the morning.
