It's his heart, he's suffering from arrythmia or whatever it's called (the chambers get unsynchronized and his pulse races, despite having a pacemaker since many years). My mother's half hysterical because, well, for starters she's a hysterical woman, but also because she feels he's not realizing he's got a condition, and for once she may have a point there. He keeps on the way he's always done and says there's nothing wrong with him. Not long before he had to take a taxi down to the hospital (in part because my mother started screaming at him), he tried to go do his swim-training as usual, but was forced to give up when his heart started racing when he jumped into the pool.

I feel a bit concerned, I must say.

Sorry to hear this Lenny. I hope he makes a swift recovery.

There is an Arrhythmia website - http://www.arrhythmia.org - maintained by the St Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, which gives some information about the condition. It is treatable.

I will check out your link later. Or earlier perhaps, since it is late now and I am unusually tired. I'm not really worried, well, I guess I am, since he is such a damn stubborn fool and always insists nothing is wrong with him even though he might not be feeling well. Why do people do that? I don't understand. Confused??

Safe and sound, I guess. His pulse was around 155-160 yesterday, at least periodically, so they drove him in an ambulance from the local hospital down south to a larger regional one where he got an electrical shock applied that set things right again.

...This time at least. As it's happened twice now in less than a week, who knows when it happens again. Fortunately his pacemaker is about to be replaced later this year, maybe they can get him one of those new-fangled ones with a built-in defibrillator that can stop the atria from beating too fast (as I believe is what he suffers from). His current pacemaker can only regulate the lower speed limit to stop it from beating too slowly.

I'm glad he is doing better and the difficulties are over, at least for now. Sounds like he really needs a new pacemaker. I hope the one he gets does whatever it is he needs it to.
