Does anyone know what can cause fainting/blacking out?

The Sunday before last i was at the driving range and i came extremely close to blacking/passing out at least six times. Somehow i managed to stop it everytime either by getting a drink of water or squatting down. I figure it could have been because i was hungry (and not aware of it?) or thirsty, or maybe overheated since i had 2 shirts on.

It happened again the day before yesterday when i caddied for my dad at some pro-am. Apparently the pro's caddy was getting worried because i kept bending over the golf bag with my head down. I think that day the total of near black outs was around 4 and stopped once we got to the back 9. It was hot out i think it might have gotten to 90+ degrees (i wasn't hot though) and i had 2 shirts on again.

So, can anyone figure out what may have caused this?

It could have been dehydration/heat exhaustion, I almost fainted from that myself once and it was highly unpleasant. Try drinking more (water, not some carbonated fizzly beverage with caffeine in it) and wearing less when out in the hot sun.

Then it might be some medical condition, low blood pressure can cause faintings (brain runs out of oxygen when the heart can't feed it enough fresh blood).

Most important though, DON'T LISTEN TO ME!!! Seek professional help if you're worried! Wink

Hope everything's OK:

It could be something simple like dehydration or low blood sugar (hunger) but no one is going to be able to diagnose you over the internet. Fainting can be caused by any number of other things and some could be very serious. See a doctor.

Think good thoughts,

e is right. go to the doc and get worked up. Something is effecting your blood pressure. I'd lay pretty good odds that it's very low when you're having those black out periods.

I've only fainted once in my life (an embarassing episode involving two tylenol w/codeine tabs and the application of a tattoo to my back), but i've experienced what you're talking about lots of times...usually when i go from sitting or lying down to standing too quickly.

Bottom line: get it checked out. it's probably dehydration causing lowered blood pressure, and drinking more water will fix it. But it could be something more serious, and it's not worth risking leaving some serious condition untreated.

My only advice would be to see a doctor as soon as you can. It might be a passing thing or you could have a problem you're not aware of. Better to play safe methinks!

I feel that its dehydration, heat exhaustion. Probably just need to stay out of sun and stuff. I life guard and we see shit like that a lot. The other thing I can thinmk of is concussion or seizures but I assume you would know if you had either of them. So good rule of thumb drink 64 oz of water a day, or two nalgene bottles if you use them. If your out in the sun and doing stuf add a another 32 oz to that per day. See if it gets better if not see a doct
