How does one go about it? I have spent a lifetime trying to figure it out.

The shippy romantic in me envies you both. :-*
Me, I have to get used to it all again, instead of just, "hey, he looks nice" or "I'd like to do something with my friend but I'm afraid to lose our friendship" or "I think I have feelings for him, but he isn't that way, I don't think." There's all that, plus, somehow, "you show me yours and I'll show you mine" or "wanna j/o?" don't seem quite like they'd work. They hardly ever worked when I was a teen and dared to ask, and just asking was rare. Figuring out how to move from friendship to something more, without ruining both; or figuring out how to date another male...yikes. :sigh: I have so much to learn. -- And I hear about guys who come out as young teens, or who find true love in late high school or in college or whenever, and... :sigh: again. OK, enough of that, ~Blue, perk up. I'll learn quickly, I suppose.
It may make me sigh a little in frustration, but it *does* give me hope to hear about guys who find that real love together. What used to seem unreachable to me for other reasons, now seems like such an improbable miracle. But for gay or lesbian couples to find that same kind of love that my (straight) family and friends have, that's... OK, see, I toldja I was a shippy romantic. That's a much nicer kind of sigh, the wistful, hopeful kind.

It's so nice to see it happening before my eyes again. I just wish
there were more stories like this.
Good Luck to both of you.

"In the depths of winter, spring is a wild and unfounded rumor, a fantastical story not to be believed. So also is love."
This is from "Little, Big" by John Crowley...if you haven't read it, you must. But it nails the experience pretty perfectly.

Oh, far from easy...
Six months of IM messaging, six years of noncontact and another 7 months of IM messaging...months and months of yearning and longing and painful lonliness...nope, not easy at all. But worth every moment, and a whole lot more.
