Reportedly, this can be the loneliest time of the year for some, no matter their orientation. I suspect that, for gays at least, it can be really bad. I know it has been for me, having lost a partner of almost 20 years 18 months ago. After making some bad choices I've been helped by Buddhism, but I'm sure the experiences of this wonderful group of people can shed many more Points of Light on the subject. Suggestions, anyone? d

Oh my... huggs u very tight... I know about that lonliness you are feeling and the best advice I can share is to get out... Be with family and friends through the holidays.
Just being with people helps lessen the holiday doldrums (what i call them).
If you need to talk my AIM ID is marcv1972c

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Marc, thanks much for your suggestion. I do get out, quite a bit. The clown face I use as an Avatar shows one aspect -- several of us go to hospitals, retirement homes, schools, events of one kind or another, and "entertain the troops", which is a total gas. I volunteer at the local school and the food bank, I work out with a group of fine people -- but at the end of the day I come home to my dog - who is great, but a bit hairy for my taste. I live in a small town and, because of illness (COPD), don't travel much, so am limited to who's here - a great bunch of people but no-one with whom I can imagine sharing what's left of my life. Look on the bright side, though -- I do have many friends, many usefulnesses, enough money, interesting work. God knows it could be MUCH worse. It could be better, too - so what else is new? Thanks again -- keep in touch. d

Many thanks for the URL, tim. I didn't know about it and have already learned a couple new things. You are truly something else - a fountain of knowledge as well as good cheer and great thoughts. Again, my thanks. d

Aww shucks, all I did was google COPD. I suspect sometimes we stand too close to things we suffer from to remmeber how to research for ourselves, though we can always research for others.
I'm glad you have a new resource. I hoope it provides a positive benefit

Hey, Timmy, it’s more than I’VE ever done, and I’m the one with the illness. With two highly-paid MDs treating me, I figured they’d already told me everything I needed to know. Right, and if I believe that you’ve got this bridge … anyway, thanks to your prompting I’m Googling up a storm and learning more and more. Thanks a bunch. d
