chapter and Tim raised some very interesting questions through Chris. I guess the first would be:
Are you gay even if you don't admit it to your self? Chris didn't think of himself as gay, just that he loved another boy. When he finally admitted to himself his homosexuality, he had felt an almost immediate satisfaction. But does it make him more comfortable with his his gayness? I guess time (and Tim) will tell. And is it the next step in publicly admitting his sexual orientation?
How important is it to accept within yourself your orientation prior to facing the world at large? Do you have to be in love with someone (or at least in a relationship) at the time to fully accept your feelings and desires?
Chis's musing about Mr Trantor was also throught-provoking. If Mr Trantor is gay and molested his sons, and Chris admits he is gay and is attracted to one of his sons, does that mean Chris could be like Mr Trantor? At what point does a boy lover become a predator?
Tim, this has raised questions in my mind that I am not sure I can deal with right now. I will drop you a line in a little bit.

Hugs, Charlie

Mr. Trantor may not be any more gay than his sons, actually. Rape is more about power than about sex. And that scenario really doesn't say anything about the orientation of the perpetrator.

I will not reveal it. To me he is a simple abuser of a soft target.

The Comic Billy Connolly has recently revelaed that he was abused daily by his Glaswegian tough father in his autobiography. Mr Connolly senior was not gay. Nor was he a rapist. He just took solace in his son. And his son took solace in him. In his case it was not an unappreciated abuse, in other words (though many cases of abuse are truly terrible), and neither is a gay man. Yet it was abuse and left its mark.

There is more hardship for the young Tranters, but this will be in book 3. It is a natural follow on from both being abused and attempting suicide.

Chris's musings are there to do exactly what they have done. provoke thinking. Is he more comfortable now he has used the "G" word about himself? Well, I am not sure. Are ANY of us? Does the acquisition of a label make us happy?

I may write chocoloate box fiction, but sometimes the chocolate brazil nut contains a clove of garlic instead of the sweet kernel.
