I don't guess you guys celebrate it, but I'm on my way to New Orleans now, to pick up some beads, maybe some guys, get a little drunk, and just generally have a good time. As they say here, "Laissez le bon temps roulez!" (Let the Good Times Roll.

And why would we guys not celebrate Mardi Gras?
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

I guess it's just another case of American ignorance. I knew Mardi Gras was celebrated in other countries, I just didn't think UK was one of them.
I had fun, was even on T.V. for a few seconds....

Not all of us guys are from the UK....
I am from Ohio, up by lake Erie in Sandusky....
And the best Mardi Gras celebrations are actually in Laffayette Lousiana.
More party with less of the danger that has plagued New Orleons for the past several years.
But no matter where the party is.... A party is a party and that is that...

OK.... Mardi Gras is a celebration of excesses preceeding ash wednesday and lent.
The concept of excessive indulgences before lent comes in many shapes around the world. In brazil as well as other central and south American countries it is called "Carnival". In some countries throughout Europe it is a day of feasting before the fast.
In general, Mardi Gras is a huge party which takes up most of the city of New Orleans... but now-a-days, other cities have picked up on the event to take advantage of the tourist trade.
Do a little Googeling and see what you can find as far as more information.
Oh.... Kevy (from Louisiana) tells me that King Cake is a Mardi Gras tradition and is yummy too.

Well, did you go and google it? Check out Bourbon St. That's where I was. It is a good place to lose your troubles for a little while, get a little drunk (I did) and watch the people around you go crazy. Everyone drinks and dances in the street, it can get a little wild, but I haven't had any major problems. There's nothing like it I've ever seen.
I've never been to Lafayette's Mardi Gras, but I heard it's good too. I've been to the Mardi Gras Flotilla Parades on False River, that was great, but then you have a bunch of drunk people hanging out of boats and we were in the water swimming for the necklaces. A combination for diasaster, but fun too.
Haven't done that for a few years...might have to check it out next year.
