Yesterday (Wednesday) in the holy city of Jerusalem something absolutely unprecedented happened. The leaders of all the faiths in the city sat down together around a table and held a joint press conference. The two Chief Rabbis were there. A senior Moslem cleric was there representing the Wakf. The protestant bishop was there. The Roman Catholic delegate was there - sitting next to (horror of horrors!) the Greek Orthodox archbishop.
The meeting together of all these divines is unprecedented. What was the message that they had gathered together to announce to the world? Might it have been a message of peace and brotherly love between all religions? Might it have been a call for peace in the Holy Land? Might it have been to offer a common prayer for all those suffering in this world?
Not on your life!
What brought all these religious leaders together, what united them into one voice, was the call that the International World Pride parade not be permitted to be held in the holy city of Jerusalem. Those gays would pollute the sanctity of the city with their lewd and unholy frolicking. They are the scum of the world and they must not be permitted to achieve their unholy design.
THAT was what brought all those kindly, loving, clerics together.
When the International World Pride event was held in Rome the Pope vigorously objected. It didn't help and the event was held and it was a huge success. The event will take place in Jerusalem next August whether these prelates like it or not - and the theme will be "Love without borders" between all peoples and all faiths. How dare they proclaim such heretical nonsense???!!!
If you want more information about the World Pride event in Jerusalem you will find it here: http://www.worldpride.net/. Read it and find out what so inflames the religious leaders of the Jews, the Moslems, the Christians of all persuasions.

What's the big deal anyway? Was this unexpected? I don't think so... or at least to anyone with a bit of sense.
They are doing their job as they see it needind done. Nothing more mothing less.
Does it make a difference? Nope.... Will it make for a better or worse pride event? Nope....
It is what is and thats all that it is....
Now on a more sober note.... Ever been to a large pride event? They can be pretty scummy.... Thenk Gawd....::-)
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

The part I find interesting is not their opposition to the event. I took that as read.
I find it interesting that they will actually all sit down together over a topic like homosexuality, rather than positive meetings to solve global problems

How could they possibly solve anything on a global level? They can't even come to terms with their own back yard.

And yet they bother about homosexuality. Far better to bother about civil wars caused by their religions, about hunger, about slavery that still exists.

Thats's really sad that they call me the scum of the world. They've never even met me :-/ I've never actually seen lewd and unholy frolicking...Is it listed in the Homosexual Handbook?
Love without borders.....Ummm, I think that's what God means when he says to love your neighbor as you love yourself. Those hot shot religious leaders are rewriting the rules?? I think they're gonna have some 'splainin' to do when God reminds them about the "No Borders" concept.
Happy April Fool's Day ~ I kinda think I know who fits that category this beautiful morning

I found the following response reported by Associated Press:
Jerusalem gay leader vows to proceed with summer festival despite clerics' protests
A gay leader in Jerusalem said yesterday that the fervent opposition of Jewish, Muslim and Christian religious leaders had made organizers of an international gay festival more determined to proceed with plans to hold the 10-day event in August in the capital. "If anyone had any hesitation about how important this event is, after the unfortunate remarks made at Wednesday's press conference, I think no such questions remain," Jerusalem Open House director Hagai El-Ad said. "It's important that one of the first signs of interfaith dialogue we have encountered here in Jerusalem takes place around such a negative message." (AP)

Well, it's always easier to get together and kvetch about something you can't do anything about, than to actually sit down and get serious about problems that might have some real impact on actual lives. Doesn't suprise me at all that this issue brought all the clerics slithering out from under their respective rocks.
cheers!

And now I have found this, which sounds a whole lot better:

That does seem more positive.
