Well I spent a lifetime waiting for somethng to happen. And as nothing did I found I was wondering "Is this a remake of 'The Wizard of Oz'?"

Are you talking about the scientific field?
Or do you mean the film "AI: Artificial Intelligence"?
Have I missed out on a conversation somewhere?

Ah, yes. It's over-long and gets pretty tedious towards the end. And the ending is so improbable that I found it impossible to believe. Contrived and silly. A deus ex machina ending.
It was originally going to be made by Stanley Kubrick (one of the greatest directors ever, IMO), but after he died the project was handed over to Spielberg who completely barbarised it. I can't watch it without wondering what might have been.

I don't think it was meant to have a climax as a movie. Although it kind of did the climax wasn't really in the standard 4/5 of the way through position. I still enjoy it, though, as a thought experiment and style experiment. Elements were overly Spielberg but I enjoyed the emotion of the film most of all. And the philosophy. And Haley Joel Osment who is really quite adorable in it. And Teddy ;-D
Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.

I was rather pleasantly surprised that they used HJO. Th eboy is a good actor, and adorable. But not by any means good looking. To me that seems an odd "model robot" for a load of "toys"
