and it has the strange coincidence (or is it) of being the same day as LIVE 8!!!
I have the misfortune of working in the afternoon, but I'm still planning on meeting up with my youth group before hand to join with a bunch of other groups for a brunch in the park ^_^
I hope many of you are planning to go down to Hyde Park Corner to show your pride, or for those of you too far from London, participate in your local pride. It truly is a great affirmation to recognise a part of who you are, and there is no better way than to march with your peers.
Next year I'm booking the weekend off!!! lol

Does all PRIDE events have to be the marching kind?
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Yup, I'm there. I've volunteered as a steward.
Next year, Europride is in London (march & rally on 1st July), which should be a biggie - so book your time off work now!

Absolutely not. I quote from the Pride London site http://www.pridelondon.org :
"18 June - 1 July 2005
A mix of theatre, opera, dance, music, film, visual arts and sport will take place throughout London, aimed at the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered communities and their friends and families."
Celebrating our diversity, as well as the things we have in common.

I know there can be other events.....
but they still have a parade....
Can there be a PRIDE celebration without a parade?

Ok, I'm thinking about this ... ... .
Multi-day multiday events & festivals need a focal point which all participants in the constituent events feel entitled to attend - even if they choose not to do so. Festivals/events that have closed, indoor events tend to be introverted and exclusive (London Fashion Week, for example). Exceptions would be where there is truly stunning media coverage, and even then an opening and/or closing ceremony helps (eg Olympics ... perhaps Glastonbury as well).
So, I think there *could* be a Pride Festival with just the march, or just the evening entertainments (if a big enough place can be found), but one-or-the-other is essential.
However, our tradition is that major community celebrations have a parade. In some sense, a parade does tend to define a "public celebration". This ranges from Remembrance day to football teams winning the cup. So I'm very happy with the parade, and will do my part to make sure that is as inclusive as possible. Average conventional unremarkable middle-aged men like me are currently under-represented - that will only change if I and others like me get out there and participate in some way!
But a fair number of friends of my own age feel rather differently about it, and that's fine.
