Neph here. I was told that some inapproriate remarks had been made here concerning Grasshopper's writing. Jamie has such a writing talent that it needs no commendation from me or anyone else, because you just have to read his stories and his talent proclaims itself with force and assurance. I wish I had one tenth of his creative and artistic ability. (Well, I can dream, can't I?)

However, when it is claimed that his work is pornopgraphy I feel compelled to rush to defend. I looked the word up in an online dictionary and found the following definition:

creative activity (writing or pictures or films etc.) of no literary or artistic value other than to stimulate sexual desire

If anybody thinks that Grasshopper's creative activity is "of no literary or artistic value" and that its only purpose is "to stimulate sexual desire" then they thereby declare that they are devoid of any real ability to appreciate good writing. (Either that, or they were just being bloody-minded.)

It is true that there is sexual innuendo in many of Grasshopper's stories, but it is never more than that - suggestive, gentle, tasteful, allusive. But the purpose of his stories is to depict emotions and characters: the stories would be every bit as good as they are if they had no sexual allusions whatsoever!

He has a remarkable talent. It is to be hoped that he will be able to develop this talent over the years. He has the ability to become a truly prodigious writer. I think there must be thousands of people "out there" who delight in Jamie's stories and find in them emotional support and a kind of self-identification that is a sign of true creative ability.

Forgive this intrusion, but that was something I just wanted to get off my chest.

I think one can assuredy say that he has a following and talent. It is hard to write a measured response about a much missed friend. I have no idea about literary merit. What I can say is that I rarely read a story or chapter that he has written without tears, happy or sad, depending on the mood he sets.

You are sooooo right! I have to put up with a writer as my tutor. You can only imagine how much stuff I have to write on any given week to get my marks. And all the stuff I have to read in order to get a lot of the comments he makes. I think I've read thirty books last grading period. Some teachers are satisfied with a few selections from the reading list. Just my luck Bonehead insists I read half of it.

But I guess that means I have a perspective about Jamie's stories. I too consider him a buddy and a water brother, so I'm biased. But he writes only enough sex stuff in the story to make the story fit the characters' mood, not as an excuse for the characters in the first place. He writes about hope, love, confusion, anger, trials and troubles, finding some peace in your life, finding some compassion to share, and finding a place in this world that fits. Timmy said that stories about sex are ten a penny. And like, they're easy to find too. But Jamie's stories aree worth far more than that. Robby (D'Artagnon to all of you, Bonehead to me) says that a story is partly what the author puts to ink and partly what the reader brings. So I guess if you come looking for porn, you might see that in a Grasshopper story, but there's so much more there, if only you look below the surface.

Then again, I'm just a lonely, horny lil kat, so what do I know about deep writing, important literature or making informed decisions about what I like. For all I know, I could just write "fuck it" at the end of this post and it might be considered pornography.

First things first,

HI NEPH, MISSED YOU!

okay, now,

I agree with you, it's not pornography, if anything
he should be accused of causing uncontroled tears of
joy and sadness in the reader. I don't think I can
read any of his stories without tears rolling
everywhere.

I'm new to both this site and to Grasshopper's work. There is no doubt that this guy has TALENT!!! I have almost completed "Just Hit 'Send'", it is truelly inspired writting. As for tears, I have shed a lot while reading this wounderfully moving story.

Thanks Grasshopper!!!

Mike
