If this works, I'll treat myself to a large whisky - or even two!

Seems to me from the list in the thread below that there are relatively few gays of international renown apart from those who would be immediately recognisable; I can think of several distinguished British academics and media personalities, but I doubt whether they are well-known in the USofA, and that's a bit unfair to the rebellious colonials. My chosen subject should be a possible for Americans with an interest in his sphere, but I think it's probably too easy for the loyal Brits!

Still, here goes. Clue tomorrow if needed!

Wait......... I'll get out the microscope.......

Any chance of placing a pic sized to actually see?

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

C'mon Marc! Don't be such a jerk! Wink

I downloaded Cossie's pic and blew it up so that my aging eyes could see it. I am still no wiser. This must be some Brit in-joke.

Once more into the breach dear British friends, once more; or we'll have to fill the hole up with your English dead! Very Happy

I'm probably wrong about this, but here goes anyway.

I also saved and "blew up", the picture, and my immediate reaction (which I'll stick to!) is that is actor Bob Hoskins in a still from the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (specifically, the scene where Eddie Valiant is handcuffed to Roger Rabbit. hidng him from the police in a kitchen sink full of suds; only with "toons" could that happen!).

If I'm right, I didn't know Hoskins is gay. Go figure!

Err...... I beg your pardon.......

That was the first thing I did and the resolution became so distorted it was totally unreadable.

But whatever.....

Lordy, a balding bloke with a big nose. And Tom Jones is heterosexual!

Oddly I think Nigel Hawthorne, though, in younger days

... on this occasion you're right - a young Sir Nigel Hawthorne it is!

Much more about him at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Hawthorne. He was not only a great actor, but a great guy.

Trouble is, he's so easily recognisable in pics from the last 20 or 30 years, and earlier shots are hard to come by. The pic in question comes from http://www.yessirnigel.com/ ; it's a thumbnail, and I admit it's not particularly clear, but I did try enlarging it x3 or so and that made it way too easy. Those with fading eyesight can view the full-size pic at the above site to see what I mean.

So welcome back, Timmy and over to you!
