By Kevy that an aquaintance of ours was told to vacate his family home within the week.
This was done because he came out to his parents.
He just turned 19 a few days ago.
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Why are people so narrow-minded? Especially with their own children. I can't begin to understand it.

I dream of boys with big bulges in their trousers,
Never of girls with big bulges in their blouses.
…and look forward to meeting you in Cóito.

Really this can link into the "Global Community" thread.
I do not want to be a global community befofre this type of appalling attitude ceases

The best of luck to your aquaintance. I hope that he manages to organise his life the best he can without his parents.
Aren't Christians supposed to be forgiving? Let he who is without sin and all that...
Hypocrites should be thankful that hell does not actually exist, otherwise they will have rather a nasty surprise when they die.

Situations like this don't relate well to luck.......
A tight grip on a few realities will get any of us through whatever life has tossed in our path.
He will not be without a place to sleep..... We have seen to that.....
He is a hard worker with a level head..... He will find permanant lodgings for himself..... We will help him furnish it.....
Kevin and I are masters at finding good deals on household regalia.....
but I don't loan out my pots and pans;-D

Even so, a little luck, good luck, would not go amiss. He has some alreayd. He knows you two.
It truly is time you let that side of your nature be seen here. So very few of us know the man behind the mask of being a curmudgeon. So few of us know you woudl give your last drop of water to someone who just asked for it.

This is not true religion! This is a travesty of any true religious teaching in the Judeao-Christian tradition.
The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

What sin is involved in this situation? In this forum we should be among the very last to even consider that sin is involved in this unhappy incident.

In a perfect world I would tend to agree......
But......
The parents are southern baptist.....
This is how it tends to end up.....
When Kevin sent the letter to his parents about his coming out....... That actually had a ritual burning of the letter in the driveway.....
Happily though after a few years they came around and now they all are on good terms.....

Well..... lets look at it like this.....
The parents think it to be so......
Until they come around it will be a long row to hoe.......
But I plan to make a visit to the father on the premise of getting auto repairs..... I shall have a news clipping (which I shall accidently forget) describing the demise of a youth in similar circumstances.....
Sometimes people do not realize the potential in their actions....
I hope this subtrafuge will do some good....

... well, I thought it was cunning to post the last two messages in invisible ink!
Seriously, though, my apologies for a technical problem known in professional circles as rank incompetence.
What I meant to say was that I admire your ingenuity and I cannot see any way in which your plan could cause harm, except that it may limit your choice of venue for future auto repairs. But somehow I don't think you'd be going back there anyway.
I very much hope that it will do some good; as a Brit, I find this Southern Baptist thing very hard to understand - it has nothing to do with the Christianity with which I grew up. But surely even a father so bigoted as to throw his son out of his home would react to the possibility that he would contemplate suicide - or would he simply regard that as another sin?
I wish you well, and hope you will keep us posted as things develop.
I'm just SO disappointed that you won't lend out your pots and pans - I just had this tremendous urge to mess around with your wok ....

OK NOW YOU HAVE DONE IT!!!!!!!
My wok is a good wok.... Well woks.... I have 4....
I will NOT loan it because people have a tendency to wack a good wok.... If a good wok gets wacked by wok wackers to much the woks go wonky and then my wockery goes wild because you can't control a wacked wonky wok.

No sin.
I was looking at it from their point of view. Even if they believe that homosexuality is a sin, they should also (if they want to be good Christian people) be fully aware that they are in no position to judge. Tolerance? Loving one's neighbour as oneself? I thought these were some of the basic tenets of Christian teaching.

I have written before in this forum that from the purely historical point of view Christianity has been, throughout its 2000 years of existence, completely lacking in tolerance and brotherly love towards those who are different - be they within the Christian fold or outside it. Thus, Southern Baptists who are intolerant towards homosexuals (among others) are within the traditional Christian parameters.
As a non-Christian reading history, sometimes I feel like screaming "Hipocrisy, thy name is Christianity".
Having got that off my chest I step off my soapbox ... temporarily

You are right.
But simply because people have historically used Christianity as an excuse for unspeakable barbarism does not mean that Christ (or whoever came up with Christ's teaching; it doesn't really matter) did not teach love and respect for other people.
Anyone who behaves in a patently unchristian way -- well, they aren't a Christian, by my book.
(I am not a Christian any more, but I used to be, and I still just about respect the Church of England.)
Incidentally, I saw a historical drama called 5/11 at the Chichester Festival Theatre last night, about the Catholic plot to blow up Parliament and James I in 1605. As usual, it was run by a group of religious crackpots without any real religious justification for their actions. Worth seeing if you're in the area, though it's only on for a few more days.

I agree with you deeej. Just because people claiming the name of "Christ"ian act in a certain way does not make them Christian. In fact they can be downright Devilian.
I was raised as a Christian and continue to consider myself one. However I no longer allow bigotry to go unchallenged when practiced by those who claim the name of Christ.
I have faced outright rejection of my view point in some quarters and agreement from many others. It has really been a very rewarding couple of years.
