Have I said he was an author? Well I have now.

It has not been confirmed he was gay. But there were many thoughts during his life that he was, and many allegations after his death. A lover is named in wikipedia, for example, but with no article on the lover.

Honest, I'm trying, timmy. In fact, I spent about 3 hours looking for this elusive guy this afternoon. Maybe not being at work has made my research skills go rusty!Sad

If no-one's "gottim" when I get back around midnight, I'll have another go in the light of your latest clue.

Somerset Maugham

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/Jmaugham.htm

states: "Maugham had sexual relationships with both men and women and in 1915, Syrie Wellcome, the daughter of Dr. Thomas Barnardo, gave birth to his child. Her husband, Henry Wellcome, cited Maugham as co-respondent in divorce proceedings. After the divorce in 1916, Maugham married Syrie but continued to live with Gerald Haxton."

Indeed yes. Regrettably we had the answer already, which, whieliut does not detract from your answer, means we have no space currently to add a new Famous Gay. You are more than welcome to take up a "Free Go" when one is offered, though.
