Timmy says it's my turn.
This guy is Italian. He's alive, he's way out of the closet, and in the entertainment business he is very much a "jack-of-many-trades". Indeed, in his sphere he is one of the truly great.

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

Here is one example of a well-known work of his. And, no, he is not the actor in the pix!

I knew I preferred a biy's butt to a girl's butt. And the top picture seems familiar. But who?
The movie looks very 1970s. I'm guessing director. You said "Alive" so Visconti this cannto be. Fellini is dead too. Michelangelo Antonioni seems to be alive, but ancient, born in 1912, and I can find nothing to suggest he had a love life at all, let alone gay.
But I will guess Michelangelo Antonioni anyway

I think that Frederico Fellini died some years ago. If it's a recent photo, my best guess is Bernardo Bertolucci - but even then the face is a bit too serene and I don't think Bernie has quite as much hair. And I have to admit that I've heard nothing to suggest that either Fellini of Bertolucci was/is gay!

Another clue: not only is he a very well-known director of movies but he is also well-known for his stage direction of opera "extravaganzas".

Well done, Ted. Zeffirelli it is. At 82 he's still going strong. (In a couple of weeks his production of Verdi's "La Traviata" premieres in our local opera house; and he was here recently giving master classes.)
While he has always been absolutely open about his gay lifestyle he has also always backed the stand of the Roman Catholic Church on homosexuality. (Please don't ask me to explain the intellectual acrobatics that must be needed to maintain such a stand: it's beyond me!)
For the curious: the delicious butt that was shown in my second clue belongs to actor Leonard Whiting who played Romeo in Zefirelli's 1968 realization of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" - still worth seeing (and not just for the butt!)
Ted's turn.
