He is a musician and alive.

I'll try and find a better picture if this one doesn't turn out well

I suppose another hint and another picture would be helpful. He is kind of obscure i suppose but "i" do believe he "merits" the status of famous gay. He does alot of work for queer activism and is in a band that (well, used to) consist of member with varying sexual orientations. I hope i haven't given this away too easily, but I do hope that I have made it reasonable.

I guess the answer is very easy. If, that is, you know who he is Smile

Yeah, I think I gave enough hints that if you had an idea you could confirm your suspicions.
One more hint however, is that, another gay musician upon being labeled as the most depressed man in rock, said, "He's never met..[thefamousegaythatihavepostedpicturesof'sname], obviously"
I find that amusing. This guy has also worked on the soundtracks to several films, a nickelodeon show, and has collaborated on three pieces of musical theater. He is the frontman of the particular band he is most famous for. I guess his name only produces 24,900 hits on google however, so maybe my familiarity with him makes me think he is a bit more famous than he actually is. Anywho, i've been listening to him basically non-stop for the past several days. He is my current musical obsession (I tend to get obsessed with bands or albums for a couple months at a time. This is the third time for me to be obsessed with a project of his).

Yup, good job on the research. I'm impressed. I didn't think I gave enough for it to be found readily on google.

He is the frontman for the band The Magnetic Fields (as well as other projects, but mainly The Magnetic Fields). His wikipedia article is interesting and it seems as though there is someone on wikipedia who is a fan because the article is quite informative.

And actually, if anyone is interested in hearing Stephen Merritt I have some of his stuff (The Magnetic Fields and Future Bible Heroes) uploaded, coincidentally, to a gmail account username: thegnomefiles password: geterdone

So, there you go.
