He believed it might harm his career but has been proven wrong, or so the articles I found said. Sporting man. US Sportsman. And good at his sport!

Having come out in an article a friend of his wrote he then seemed to backtrack somewhat and wondered what all the fuss was about. I found this picture with an alternate spelling of his name. WHile it doesn;t show his face well it depicts him truly in action.

There is a great deal online about black gay sportsmen and how much harder it is for them to come out than for their white colleagues. Seems to me it;s just hard anyway when you are in a locker room environment. Heterosexual men somehow feel vulnerable. Can't think why! Most of them are far too ugly for anyone to want!

This guy is complex. he went on purpose to give a major news interview saying he has been going to gay clubs since he was 14, got the uspport of his spoonsor to come out, and pretty much immediately afterwards started to say "I am not gay".

Now "role model" that is not. It does show how unwise it is to come out without thought.

Since he seems to be "obscurely gay" or "not gay at all" or "has a girlfriend" I need togive more clues.

He's a runner. His distance used to be middle distance but is now a sprint, kind of. He's recent and he's alive and does talks to US schools on the need for physical activity

If he says he is not gay.....

Who are we to insist he is?

How does this make him a famous gay person?

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

I must admit that piece of logic had not escapd me, but I have been busy today.

Probably I will close this one and start another. Apparently he went through with the interview because he had promised to do it........

Hear, hear.

Many of the "famous gay people" we have had were not gay in the modern sense, and we can't even be sure they were homosexual. To be honest, the whole quiz is pretty skewed.

What does make a person gay?

Does writing romantic poetry about a member of the same sex?
Does having had a romantic relationship?
Does having had sex?
Does flirting?
Does having spent most of their time in the company of other men (who may or may not have been homosexual)?
Does having been rumoured to be homosexual?
Does having had a sexual attraction to others of the same sex? (Note that all of the former could have occurred without that elusive sexual attraction.)

The fact is that the only way we could know would be if we could raise them from the dead, define the term, and ask them. And if we could, many of those that we have casually lumped together with other "famous gay people" would be outraged.

In just the same way, a person who has said that he or she is gay in the past could change his or her mind. Perhaps he or she was wrong. Or perhaps "gay" is far too simple a term to describe their range of attractions.

"Gay" is a ill-fitting label at the best of times. Perhaps it would be more politically correct just to have a "famous people" quiz.
