Okay, this is quite an obscure one, so I'll put in plenty of clues.
The person I'm talking about is in the foreground of this picture.
Firstly, I'll say that this photograph is from a film; which means that the actors are in full make-up.
The second clue is the actor in the background, who was a co-star in one of the films.
The third, fourth and fifth clues are that this person rose to prominence for a role in a significant British film in the early nineties (and got an Oscar nomination, no less), took a role in a big-budget Hollywood film which went on to spawn a successful long-running television series, then quietly went back to working as a fashion assistant in London.
Any ideas?
Of course, it's terribly obvious to those who have seen the film that the photograph is taken from, almost to the point that it wouldn't be sporting to say.

Jaye Davidson?
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Mm. I asked someone else and he said Jaye Davidson, so possibly this person is better known than I had anticipated.
Over to you, Marc.

Nope, I had never heard of the person before.
But I do keep up with the film industry.
Your clues were a rather straight forward map to the answer.

Aha, okay then. So the clues did what they were meant to do.
The film in which Jaye Davidson starred was "The Crying Game" (1992). An odd film. But if you haven't seen it, don't read up about it beforehand. Just watch it. The "twist" is pretty obvious, and I was initially amazed at how "revolutionary" ordinary people thought it was. I suppose the film did stray into territory rarely before covered in mainstream film, at least in 1992.
I saw it for the first time last week, which is why I used Jaye Davidson as my "famous gay".
