One more, how do people justify their faith and where does it come from. especially how do people justify supposed beliefs that are not supported by well, anyone else?

... as I was driving home this evening I was listening to a discussion on the radio about a recent book from a US professor, in which he has applied scientific methodology to the history and development of religion. He has advanced science-based arguments explaining how and why religions originated and developed. The short section I heard seemed both interesting and fairly convincing, but unfortunately I didn't hear the name of the professor or the title of the book.
The programme was hosted by Andrew Marr and was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 9.30.p.m., 13 March. It occurs to me that one of you clever computer-savvy guys might be able to call it up on line and find the missing details. I'd certainly consider buying the book if I could identify it.
But I guess the basic answer to Andy's question is because they're nuts!
For a' that an' a' that,
It's comin' yet for a' that,
That man tae man, the worrld o'er
Shall brithers be, for a' that.

American philosopher DANIEL DENNETT discusses his latest book which attempts to question religion. Should faith and reason coincide? Should religion be open to scientific questions? Does religion hold the moral high ground? Breaking The Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon is published by Allen Lane.
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Breaking the Spell is Daniel Dennett's most innovative and important work yet; it offers a profound challenge to society and a compelling new history of belief. Few forces in the world are as potent as religion: it comforts people in their suffering and inspires them to both magnificent and terrible deeds. In this provocative and timely book, Dennett seeks to uncover the origins of this power, and discusses why and how different faiths have commanded allegiance and shaped so many lives. He does not contest these beliefs. Rather, he argues passionately for the need to understand this multifaceted phenomenon, and he offers a truly original - and comprehensive - explanation for religion. What was the psychological and cultural soil in which it first took root? How did it evolve? Is it the product of blind evolutionary instinct or of rational choice? Dennett shows how these ideas could have spread from individual superstitions, via shamanism and the early 'wild' strains of religion to today's institutionalized systems. Dennett's extraordinary achievement is to weave such a richly detailed narrative, to imagine it so vividly, and to argue for it so forcefully. He brings religion into the realm of real public debate - and, in so doing, he breaks the spell

... the number of the Beast is achieved. Repent (sharpish like!), for the end is nigh! Or, alternatively, have another helping of haggis - nothing could be worse than that!
