Greetings-
I finished "Promises to Keep", the story that Chris requested that I read, and what brought me here initially. I have since read everything else by Grasshopper, but I haven't a clue about who, where, what, when, or why. Needless to say I was impressed, and I understand why Chris thinks it relates to his life.
So to keep it in the proper spirt: Who IS that boy?
Regards
Simon

Simon, the author is also an occasional poster to this message board. As several have mentioned recently, on this message board we tell about ourselves as much or as little as we choose. It's our personal privilege. I would say that Grasshopper is one of those authors whose own personality shines through whatever they write, so if you really want to know about Grasshopper - read the stories.
Over the years I think that Grasshopper - knowingly or unknowingly - has made sufficient self-revelations on this board for it to be possible for you to glean a pretty good idea of "who, what, why, where and when" if you use the search mechanism diligently.
What I do know is that Grasshopper is a very unassuming - almost shy - individual, one who would be quite distressed if others started posting personal details that happen to be known to them.
I am privileged to know this author quite well, so let me summarize for you what is publicly known:
Grasshopper is the pen name of a young man called Jamie - he is now about 19 years old - whose family recently moved from Florida to a cattle ranch somewhere in the north-western United States. He is now learning how to be a cowboy, and when he has the time and the energy he still writes wonderful stories. He has a wonderful sense of humour and a very ethical view of life. He has his own religious faith, but was unhappy about the religious attitudes of the society in which he lived when the family was living in the bible belt.
I hope this satisfies your curiosity because we are not likely to know much more unless Grasshopper decides to tell you what you want to know - and if he does it will be with his characteristic sense of mischevious humour.
The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

Just a decent, bright, gay kid from a standard (!) Southern Baptist home who can express it better than most. Not here as much as he used to be, and busier with other things than writing that he would like.

Greetings JFR
Appreciate the info, I wasn't looking for any personal details, just the stuff that would have appeared on the book jacket if his work were in print.
I won't mine the board, that is too much like eavesdropping on conversations that I was not a part of.
Regards
Simon

Grasshopper is one of those people you just want to know, not because of anything special they do, but just because they are who they are. I learned real quick that he puts a piece of hisself in the stories he writes. I wrote him a mail not to long ago and was so honored that he took the time to respond.
