don't you hate it. The semester is almsot over and we all know what that means right? Grades, I hate grades. I especially hate bad grades.

It seems that grades should be a reflection of effort and attempt. But noooo I worked my ass off on a presentation. I mean honestly worked for about 2 weeks to make my presentation good. I did a power point, I practised, I talked to people about it, I discussed it before hand with the teacher.

What do I get for that? a great big B. Now I'm not a grade whore but I do have expectations. Ya see, in most other classes i would be ecstatic with a B but no, this was OED, Outdoor Education. I mean give me a flipping break.

Assmunches who put together there projects the day before got higher grades then me. why did I get a B? Not becuase it was a bad presentation, nope, becuase I went over the time. I didn't realize we were being graded so strongly not on our content but that ability to talk for 20 minutes. Give me a break.

If I had known he was going to emphasis staying within a time frame and rambling for 20 minutes he should have waned me. That would have been easy. Now I am upset for no reason truly.

Talked to my folks today, they told me not to worry about it they don't care. for some reason that wasn't reassuring enough. And if any of you tell me shit happens deal with it I'm gonna lose it.

The End of Rant I'm gonna go lay down before I lose my mind.

while were at it. I need to write a bloody 1500 word essay on the passion of the christ by fuckin gibson. do I care about the passion? Not in the least. It was painful enought that I had to sit thee and watch it then sit through a discussion on it. But now I need to write an essay on it. Jee Wiz they are asking too much.

At least this teacher is an easy grader.

Frank,

I'm not trying to provoke an argument here, but is there something you'd actually like to discuss, or for us (I don't necessarily mean me: there are lots of much cleverer people than me around here) to give advice on? If we're not even allowed to say "Sorry to hear it, but that's life" (or other variations of "shit happens") then this thread is basically closed already.

If the whole course is hopeless, or you genuinely think they are asking too much, there is a simple solution, you know: don't do the work, and stop the course.

I have two 5000 word essays that I should be spending my every moment writing, but I'm not complaining about them (even though I would dearly love to); there's a simple choice involved -- either do them, or don't do them. And the second is only an option if I want to pack it all in.

If you don't mind too much what you get for it, it's quite possible to write a 1500 word essay in a couple of hours. I haven't seen the Passion of the Christ, but I can't believe it's any worse than some of the really obscure, plotless films I've had to write about.

... everybody needs to vent now and then. What's the harm in venting, when it's not directed against any of us?

Hope it made you feel better, Frank!

Thanks man! That was so encouraging and positive don't mind me while I go jump off a bridge now. (jk) I mean great you have it all together you have your papers and you don't bitch about them, and wow I don't like it so if I don't like it I might as well stop huh. Well I am happy that worked so well for you and sorry my post was a burden I'll stop posting now.

I didn't want you to tell me sorry thats how life goes because that is such an infeeling/ ridiculous response. That's like telling someone whos leg fell off sorry shit happens get over it.

Also I have one day of class left and a final so I don't think I am just going to "stop the course" That my friend would be absolutly ridiculous.

I'm sure my papers are no less pointless then anything anyone else is doing but that doesn't negate their stupidity. So again I am sorry for expressing an opinion to you guys.

Also if you need to start a post " I'm not trying to provoke an argument here" inevitably you know you will be.

I haven't made an A in 5 years. Honestly. I wasn't exactly an academic high-flier when I left school.

That's an interesting question... what *do* you say to someone whose leg has just fallen off?

There are two things you can say:

- "I'm very sorry to hear it," (which I contend is just the same thing as "Sorry, shit happens,")
- Nothing

As for things you can do:

- You can do your best to make life easier for them
- You can offer to help with their medical bills
- You can give advice if you have experience in that area (if you're a doctor or a psychologist, for example)

As far as I can see, you've denied us the first option, and you haven't given us much opportunity for the second either (to give advice). Or if we do give advice, you ignore it. I'm not talking about my advice in particular -- I guess you've already decided it's not worth much -- but there are other people, far wiser than me, who have given you advice in the past.

>So again I am sorry for expressing an opinion to you guys.

An opinion is good. But you're unlikely to get much of a response unless it's something that a number of other people have an opinion on. Perhaps you didn't expect anyone to. But it so happens I do -- I was in a similar position to you a year ago.

Whenever you express an opinion on something in a public forum, even if it's something you think only you know about, you should expect to be challenged.

>I mean great you have it all together you have your papers and you don't bitch about them, and wow I don't like it so if I don't like it I might as well stop huh. Well I am happy that worked so well for you and sorry my post was a burden I'll stop posting now.

I have it all together? I don't bitch about them? In fact, I really dislike my course and last year I was telling everyone that. After the first few times, I think everyone was pretty fed up with it. It came down to a stark choice: do the work, and stay on the course, or don't, and stop. It may not be as black and white in your case. But I'm not continuing with the course because "I have it all together"; I'm doing it because I had to make a decision, and I have done my best to stick to it.

I don't care if you vent on this board (it's not my board, after all), but it would be nice if we could get to know you beyond that: why not join in some other people's threads?

>Also if you need to start a post " I'm not trying to provoke an argument here" inevitably you know you will be.

Isn't that the point? It's a disclaimer: if you would rather not read this post, don't. And it's true: I was not trying to provoke an argument. I was just telling the truth as I see it.

Well you need to look at it in perspective, a B in history is ok. A B in English and I would say Thank God. But a B in Outdoor education, thats like fuckin majoring in gym. There is no reason why I should pull a B in that. I dropped my OED class for next semester, I'm just gonna take another religion class. I don't need the OED anyway.
