We have a channel here on TV called Logo. It the Gay network. Last night Harvey Fierstein made a plea to the gay community. they had a conference, included were proffessionals, lay people, Mature, middle aged and young gays and lesbians. The conference covered many items but one stood out like a spotlight. The younger generation felt 1. left out 2. abandoned 3. ignored 4. treated as objects. this really got the attention of the people at the conference. Feirstein said that the older gay community has failed in its job to mentor and help younger gays and lesbians avoid the pitfalls ahead of them. Gay and lesbian youth arnt gona learn what they need to from our schools, or a text book. They are not being taught pride in who they are, but are full of fear. He ask Gay men and lesbians to voluteer to mentor or staff safe houses, to get involved or at least donate money to the organizations who do, so they can continue. To treat gay kids not as objects, not to be dismissed but as their children because thats what they are, the future.
I just wondered if those people were aware of this site. This site is unique, nothing like the others. The others have their points, but this one is special. Just like when Matt came and ask and got answeres. He wasnt dismissed or ignored, but was welcomed and treated as an equil member of our community.
I think what makes this place so different from all the others is that its moderated after the fact. You ask a question and you get an answer in a short time, not 2 days later.
Well seems like Ive picked up Grandfathers habit of long postings, so I best cut this short. Just wanted People in here to know what Feirstein said, how important this place is to me and Matt and others we dont even know. Timmy, thank you!

I'm happy if someone makes them aware, but the site works best as a casual drop-in zone.
I started it simply because I never had anyone to ask. We surely are not unique? If so that is a sad reflection on society as a whole.
There is a problem that youth is desirable. It is the same in heterosexual and homosexual worlds. Wrinklies are generally not aesthetically pleasing, after all! And tunny ones even less so! So youth is "objectified" sexually. I am not aware of a female equivalent of "twink" or "Chicken", so often used about teenage boys and early twenties. I am sure they must have equivalents, but it is not a world that interests me
Moderation is always a hard thing. I choose absolutely not to moderate unless things get unpleasant. So "after the fact" is the right way, actually for pretty much any group.
There are bad apples inthe gay world, of course. Here a gay couple just made headlines because they abused the boys they fostered. That makes me doubly angry. How DARE they ruin it for decent gay men????????
