We have stories ion the site, by an author who approached me and asked me to host them. Today he sent me a peremptory note "Please take my stories down." This despite the notice on the site about copyright and story placement: http://iomfats.org/misc/copyright.html that says simply that once I take a story it stays unless I decide myself to remove it.

He does not like that, and is stamping his foot. He "Wants them taken down today" because he is "No longer wanting to be gay" and thus does not want his name associated with gay stories.

I am having a minor rant. I feel used by someone who wanted 15 minutes of fame, and then decied he didn't want to play after all.

I have currently told him that my desire to assist his wishes is in inverse proportion to the lack of consideration shown. I used shorter words.

In any case things like "The Wayback Machine" will have archived his work. Google probably has it for all time, too, in its cache.

I have to say that it is not the best work the site has ever seen, but it had a purpose, and it had enough about it to catch my imagination. He even put two editors to trouble in making it actually work because it was in a dreadful shape when he asked me to host it.

Thats kinda like Leonardo DeCaprio doing that movie about two gay poets and making love and Leo does a nude shot. The tabloids started publishing the pics and people started renting the movie. Leo wanted the courts to stop them from showing it and publishing pics. The dude gave you permission to post his work and you did, you didnt violate copyright cause he is given credit for the work and you had his permission. The courts refused to ban the film and stop posting the pics for DeCapprio. Hey the stories should stay right where they are. Decided hes not going to be gay anymore. Thats the biggest crock of crap Ive ever heard. It wont be long till hes working for walker and turner, Walking the streets and turning the corners looking for a trick.

"A word is not a bird: once flown you can never catch it".

An old proverb, which as timmy points out is especially true in the case of the internet!

I'd also be interested to know, in due course, if the author has found "not wanting to be gay" to have any effect - while I haven't tried it myself, I gather the success rate of "wanting", or indeed anything else, in changing one's sexual orientation is pretty close to zero.

But, timmy, however much and rightly you feel aggrieved, I suspect that whoever this person is, it isn't a question of "using" you for 15 minutes of fame, but of someone going through confusion ... hopefully not as as a result of external pressure, and I hope they resol,ve their situation soon.

None of which, of course, in any way justifies their attitude to timmy. But it might go some way to explain it.

"No longer wanting to be gay." What a tosser. Everyone must feel like that sometimes, but it doesn't excuse rudeness to a nice guy like timmy.

And Brian, "walker & turner" ? lol

cheers

... possibly the last film in which Leo actually used his considerable acting skills, rather than being content to be a hollywood-style clone.

And no, the nude scenes don't really reveal that much detail ...

I never wanted to be gay either. But I got landed with it.

I've told him that he has to learn to behave well, after which I might consider it. He may be confused, but he is also an adult.

I wonder how long it will take him to look at the site and discover that his stories are gone.

I trashed them earlier tonight. I was SO tempted to put up a notice saying "this Author was stupid enough to use his real name, and doesn;t want to be associated with his gay stories any more because he has decided not to be gay"

He doesn't get to come back. What irks me is there was not even a "thank you" for hosting them at all.

It was the weird series of tales about a colonel who beat his son. The story was powerful until it became fanciful, but the editing that a friend of mine had to do was extreme and bizarre.

I think he should be tied up and dragged through the gay district of every town in the world and then we could cut off his..... clothes and sell the bits as gay souveiners from all those happy places..... and then we could burn the bits because well...... because.....

well..... just because he inconvienced someone a little bit.......

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Is not inconvenience. It is politeness. As webmasters know, this stuff takes work. It is a "job" we get little thanks for. But I woudl have expected to have more than a demand. I would expect a polite request aloing with a note of thanks. Just because it costs him nothing.

But I have pointed out that his name and stories are in search engine caches worldwide, so he will never ever be able to remove himself. That ought to cause a little perspiration Smile

This is actually rather funny. He has his stories on Nifty, and they have been archived elsewhere, too. He was obviously not wise enough to use a false name, so he appears everywhere with that name, which he shares with a pastor Smile Search engines will carry his stories and his name for ever, pretty much

Some time ago he mentioned he had an offer of publication. Well, if so then the editing will need to be substantial! This may be the real reason for his preremptory demand for "unpublishing".

It's really rather silly of him. If he had emailed me and said "I have he following problem...." he would have found me happy to help him with it. Instead he demanded with no reasons. Silly man.
