Gays Blamed For Middle East Crisis
by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff
http://365gay.com/Newscon06/07/072006israel.htm

(Jerusalem) The head of an extreme Orthodox group is blaming gays for the ongoing attacks on Israel by the Islamist terror group Hezbollah.

Specifically, Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch blames WorldPride which is scheduled to take place in Jerusalem next month.

Sternbuch, who heads the Eda Haredit rabbinic court, is one of the leading opponents of the international gay pride event.

"We have not protested enough against this parade of abomination and therefore we have received this warning," Sternbuch, said in a hand-written message to his followers.

"Who knows where things will get to if we do not act further and more stringently against it."

An American Orthodox rabbi, also a harsh critic of WorldPride, agrees.

New York Rabbi Yehuda Levin, of the Orthodox Rabbinical Alliance of America and the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the US and Canada, said that there is a "spiritual cause and effect," between the planned parade and the current violence.

Both Levin and Sternbuch have called for massive non-violent protests against the week-long international gay festival.

Other Orthodox rabbis and right-of-center members of the Knesset have joined the call for demonstrations.

In an open letter to religious Jews a number of rabbis from Israel and abroad are calling for a million people to take to the streets on the day of the WorldPride march to protest.

The letter is titled "Conflagration in Jerusalem – All in battle to honor the holly divine spirit".

Last month a Moslem leader, sheik Ibrahim Sarsur who is also a member of the Knesset, warned gays that "if they dare to approach the Temple Mount during the parade – they will do so over our dead bodies."

WorldPride was to have been held in Jerusalem last summer but postponed until 2006 due to the Israeli pullout from the Gaza.

The escalating conflict in the Middle East is being monitored by event organizers but they say they expect to hold the event as planned from August 6 - 12.

From the post:
>"We have not protested enough against this parade of abomination and therefore we have received this warning," Sternbuch, said in a hand-written message to his followers.

I don't believe that they believe anything of the sort. They are willfully spreading misinformation to try and work up their followers against something to which they might otherwise have been relatively indifferent.

Very childish, really.

Religious bigots abound, especially at times of crisis and vulnerability.

This whole thing is just the same as in all history.

"My god is an excuse for me to do what I want. If I use the name of god loud enough I can rape, pillage, put to death and imprison whom I want. If I shout 'in god's name' loud enough no citizen can oppose me because they are then the enemies of god"

"Now, where is my megaphone?"

Suposidly god told the Isrealites to invade diff people and kill them all. Like the city of Shitum. Now, I cant believe that every living human especial a child was so evil that God wanted him destroyed. I think they wanted to eliminate the compitition around the area and saying god said to do it was a good excuse and then they wouldnt feel bad about the carnage and killing babies cause God wanted it that way.

WorldPride Parade Cancelled
by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff
http://365gay.com/Newscon06/07/072106israel.htm

(Jerusalem) Organizers of WorldPride to be held next month in Jerusalem on Friday cancelled the pride parade but say other events will go ahead as planned.

WorldPride is scheduled to be held in Jerusalem from August 6 - 12.

Police denied Jerusalem Open House a parade permit saying that they are unable to provide a safe environment for the march in light of the current hostilities in the region and the excessive stress it puts on the police's manpower.

"We feel it would be neither responsible nor appropriate to hold the march until such time that circumstances allow for a safe and peaceful gathering for all," said a statement from Open House co-chair Hagai El-Ad.

El-Ad said though that the cultural aspects of WorldPride are going ahead.

Those events include an Multifaith LGBT Clergy Conference, an outdoor festival, Human Rights Day, LGBT Health Day, an International LGBT Youth conference, and an LGBT Film Festival.

The event which is held in a different world city every four years was to have been in Jerusalem last summer but postponed due to the Israeli pullout from the Gaza.

WorldPride spokesperson Cathy Renna in New York told 365Gay.com that despite the situation in the Middle East there have been few cancellations.

She said that thousands of people from around the world will attend.

WorldPride has been under fire from conservative religious groups including Muslims, Jews and evangelical Christians.

On Thursday the head of an extreme Orthodox group blamed WorldPride for the ongoing attacks on Israel by the Islamist terror group Hezbollah. (story)
