Day is done.
Gone the sun.
From the lakes,
From the hills,
From the sky.
all is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh

Fading light
Dims the sight,
And a star
Gems the night,
Gleaming bright
From afar.
Drawing nigh
Falls the night.

Thanks and praise
For our days
Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
Neath the sky.
As we go
This we know
God is nigh

TAPS

Brian,
This takes me back to my days in the military when we actually did sing those words in a song. Don't ask me much more than that as it was over 40 years ago now.

I segway from that right to the Navy Hymm which used to be one of the songs used in the days when tv stations actually would sign off at night and stop transmitting until 6am or so.

I can't remember too well the name of another song/poem that was played at signoff but it was about the wonder of flight and the last line was how the guy would reach up into the sky and touch the hand of God.

The song I posted here is TAPS, played at sundown and at military funerals. the other poem you are thinkin g about is called "High flight" and is a poem written by a Canadian Pilor who died after writting it. the last line is "Reached out my hand and touched the face of God."
