FROM HAGAI EL-AD, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF JERUSALEM OPEN HOUSE, WORLDPRIDE ORGANIZER
The Jerusalem police 24 hours ago informed us that they are unable to provide a safe environment for the march in light of the current hostilities in the region and the excessive stress this puts on their staff. Therefore, we feel it would be neither responsible nor appropriate to hold the march until such time that circumstances allow for a safe and peaceful gathering for all. This is not the time for celebrations, and the march, which would requires extensive security, will not take place due to the situation. The parade will be held with the improvement of the security situation in the country. All other WorldPride events will take place as scheduled in a format that is sensitive to the situation and as part of the continued democratic struggle for a free Jerusalem.
We continue to hear from attendees from around the world informing us that they will indeed be coming to Jerusalem. Their participation inspires us to work toward a successful and safe WorldPride gathering in the spirit of the principles we have always promoted: peace, tolerance and respect for diversity in all its forms.
We are committed to marching in Jerusalem as we have done successfully annually since 2002. A new date for this year's Pride March in Jerusalem will be announced as soon as a cease fire is achieved in the region. We hope and pray together with our colleagues and supporters around the world for an end to hostilities and suffering in the region.
The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

This is evidence enough that the world pride should never have been held in Israel.
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

I'm not so sure.
Surely one of the purposes of World Pride, among the many purposes, is to hold the celebration in a city that may learn something from the event, that may need to learn something form the event?
All it really shows is that the civil authorities are somehwat busy with other things right now.

I think you are wrong.....
I am sure the local jerusalem police are not up at the notrh border fending off J-walking invaders. Considering the long time ambient political atmosphere in israel I doubt very much if the local police could offer much protection.
The world pride is to pormote gay solidarity not to showcase a local agenda.
The choice to promote world pride in israel was nothing short of a sad attempt at "in your face activism" and that never is good..... not on any level.

Should we only be proud in places where one is already "allowed" to be gay?
Surely, in some places, the stance of the Gay Liberation Front is more appropriate than gentle affirmation.
No, the local police will not be at the borders. Instead they will be preparing as usual for civil disturbances should the battles move to Jerusalem. Their ranks will be stretched rather too thinly by this to ensure the safety of any demonstration.
But your point, surely, was prior to the announcement that the march was not to take place?

No... We should be proud everywhere... but that pride should not be used and those exhibiting this pride should not be used to promote an agenda designed to provoke a negative response.

No.... not if you are talking about bringing the gay agenda into the spotlight solely for the purpose of provoking that response.

Can you, with any certanty, say that they can provide a safe environment in the best od conditions? I do not think it is possible in that region of the world.

I was against the location of world pride from the moment I heard it. I would and do advise any persons intent on attending to reconsider.
