The World Pride events did take place in Jerusalem throughout last week and they were considered to be most successful. You may recall that the police cancelled the permit for the parade because of "the situation". However, a demonstration, it transpired, does not require a permit, so the Jerusalem Open House organized a Pride Demonstration by the Liberty Bell in Jerusalem. Many thousands took part (I don't have exact figures) and the demonstration was secured by the Police. Unfortunately, anti-war demonstrators joined "our crowd" towards the end and the Gay Pride organisers asked all their people to quietly disperse so that the Pride demonstration should not have a political tinge.

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)
