Jason, we always hurt the ones we love. Self-flagellation is not going to help you or him.
Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, learn from the experience, look forward, not back.

There is the sympathy that weakens and the sympathy that strengthens. I hope this is the sympathy that strengthens.

Special long hug

I went in to work. Happy that I would see his face for the first time In about a week. But he did not show. When it was around 6:30-7 I got the idea that I would call and see why he was not at work. So I went to my boss to see if I could call. He than stated that today was the last day for Brandon to still have his job. And that he will not becoming back. That I pointed out his pattern of not showing up for work. My hart hit the floor I got him fired if I never asked the day before if he had quit he would still have his job. How could I have been so selfish? Why did I wait so long to make a move. Now I will never know if he liked me.

Hi Jason,

I do not feel that counts as "getting him fired". Unless you were directly responsible for him, then there is nothing you could have done about his attendance. If you had not asked about him, someone else would have twigged sooner or later, and the outcome would have been the same. If it is anyone's fault it is certainly Brandon's, for not turning up to work on a regular basis. If he wanted to keep his job, like anyone else in the same position, he should at least have discussed it with his superiors in good time, before it came to a crisis point. That he did not is a clear indication that he was planning to quit anyway, or wanted to be fired.

It is obviously going to be difficult to remain friends if you no longer see him -- especially if he bears ill will to his employers (though he may, of course, just be apathetic). I do not know quite what the solution is there; it depends on half a dozen factors. If you feel you know him well enough now to contact him directly, then do that; otherwise I am afraid there is probably not an alternative solution.

These things happen; a similar thing happened to me (from a slightly different angle) at a part-time job I did last year. I was unhappy about the work and finally quit, and could not think of any pretext for contacting the other employees. I did not know them well enough to count them as friends yet. In the end I forgot about it.

Jason, I don't think you can blame yourelf for that. It's obvious the boss was already on top of the situation and had noted Brandon's absenteeism. Unless you see him outside work and that sounds unlikely, just put it down to experience. If he didn't have good reasons for staying away from work, he might well have turned out to be a waster, even if a very good looking waster, and you don't deserve that.

I'm sure you'll find someone soon. Keep us posted.

Hugs
Nigel

Jason,

You got him fired in no manor, shape or form. Try and find his phone number and give him a call.

You know, Brandon got himself fired. He just failed to show. Now you can see him if you call him. So call him.

You asked a simple question. You pointed out nothing. The boss should have known anyway.

Now call him. "Dude, you got FIRED, how crap is THAT?"
