I just had a friend over to help work on the computers and when moving hard drives from a dead machine to one of the new ones we discovered that an 80gig hard drive was in reality a 3gig hard drive.......

I had another so called friend install the 80gig a while back.....

All we could assume was that the brandynew 80gig was switched with an old piece of crap.....

Damn.....

Oh well..... Live and learn.....

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

But didn't you notice when the operating system or the BIOS said "3GB" the first time you booted it up after installation? Or any time since? 3GB drives are also usually very slow -- noticeably slow -- in comparison to more modern technology.

Are you sure it isn't a wrong jumper, a bad hard disk controller, a dodgy drive, or anything else? Presumably if the drive says 3GB on it, that would count as proof, but with anything else I'd be inclined to blame a hardware fault.

For that matter, are you sure it's the same drive your so-called friend actually installed? Could you be mixing it up with another one, perhaps one in a different computer or (if there are multiple drives) another one in the same case?

I know it sounds mad, but I have been known to take out the wrong drive by mistake when installing a new one, only noticing once I'd put the case back together again.

Most things like this are based on idiocy rather than malice. Why not ask the other frined what happened?

My thing is graphics and web design.......

I don't do hardware.......

The person working on the machines showed me how to read the disk size today..... 3.2gig was the prize....

I'm sure it is the right drive..... Well the one that I thought was right at any rate....

As for speed and such..... I used this computer solely for working on tweeking graphic images..... It looked and felt fast enough to me....

No matter, it is only hardware and not worth stressing out over.....

Now we have to get a larger HD to stick into the machine..... When I have the extra $$$ that is.....

True enough....

When I see him I surely will ask....... But it's not important.....

More of an annoyance than a problem.....

At least we were able to replace the fried computers relatively innexpensively....... Kevy's UNI sold off a room full of computers saturday and we were able to get 2 nice machines.... All for only $85.00

We are going to network them into our system and use each as independant backup storage... one as a primary and the second as a third backup in case I totally fuck up....... LOL

With loosing out 2 primary computers this summer I am about 6 weeks worth of website updates behind..... At least out clients understand and are even helping verify their websites as we rebuild our files.....
