YES COM-FREAKING-PUTERS!!!!
They suck!!!!!
And when they are done they suck again.......
I had to waste 13 hours doing a full reinstall along with reinstalling all the software I need for my business!!!!!
ALL BECAUSE OF A FREAKING POP-UP-WORM!!!!!
THERE SHOULD BE A FREAKING LAW!!!
And the penalty should be to be strapped into a chair with their eyelids sewn open and forced to watch popups until their brains are mush!!!!!
All that aside..... Kevy spent the whole day helping me..... he is soooo sweet....... waves~~~~ to kevy.......
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Guess why I use Linux almost exclusively!
(Except that it's free.)

Macs are also good, if you want a stable system that's relatively immune to viruses and worms.
I use Windows occasionally for video and audio editing when there is no equivalent for Linux (and usually there isn't). Most (95%) of the time I run Linux.
It's really pretty difficult to get a virus onto a Windows system provided you take precautions (scan all emails to filter viruses at the server end, use a firewall, use a web browser that is not Internet Explorer, keep patches up-to-date, and are very careful what you download). I've had to reinstall Windows occasionally because of general bugginess, but never so far because of a virus (touch wood).

hey go get a program called "go back".
So say what you want
(You know I'm wasting all my time)
You've gotta mean it when you say what you want
(You're only safe when you're alone)
And everybody's on your mind
Saying anything to get you by

Well, our systems and network are relatively safe from viruses and worms....... 3 virus programs and 3 others that ferret out pop up things and the like.
But no system is foolproof..... If there is let me know and I'll get some....

Have you ever used Linux, or is that statement just intended to justify why you would never consider using anything but Windows?

Well, how did the virus get onto the system?
Virus scanners are very creditable, but they are not a precaution -- they are a sort of "morning after pill" and as such don't work until the virus is already on the system, by which time it may be too late.

Yup.....
I have something called UMBUTO on one of the computers here.....
I don't however have a MAC at present but I do want one soon.....
For what it's worth.....
If I say I do not like something it is because I have tried it and do not like it.....

UMBUTO?
Do you mean Ubuntu?
>If I say I do not like something it is because I have tried it and do not like it.....
Well, there are a lot of people who say they don't like Linux on the sole basis that they used it for ten minutes and couldn't work out how to load the word processor. The same would probably apply in Windows if they had only used it for ten minutes, too.
In my case, it took a year or two of mixed Linux/Windows usage before I went over to Linux permanently. I agree it's not the solution to everything, but on the whole once you've got the system set up how you want it, it's no more complicated to use than Windows. What's more, it has the bonus that you never practically never need to reinstall, it doesn't pick up viruses (the only requirement is that you keep it patched and up-to-date), you can update really easily (if you use the right distribution), it doesn't cost anything, and you can make the system do what you want it to do rather than what Microsoft thinks is best for you.

I have several computers running and turn to the machine best suited and set up to run whatever programming I need at that time....

I rsync the filesystem to a 300GB backup disk.
Unfortunately I have over 750GB of data, so I can only back up about a third of it.
Mostly it's video for video editing projects. It's about the same price to archive on disk as it is on tape, and much easier to access.

Get a terra byte inline storage unit..... They really come in handy for overload storage and they are somewhat portable too.....

Avid Xpress Pro for picture editing.
Steinberg Nuendo and Wavelab for sound.
I would love to learn Final Cut Pro some time, but unfortunately before I can do that I need to get a Mac. And they don't come cheap. It'll have to wait until I start earning, so not for another year or two at least.
The same goes for the terabyte storage unit -- the cheapest option is just to keep buying new IDE or SATA 250GB or 300GB hard disks and setting up automated scripts to make backups at four in the morning. Until I can have a proper rationalisation of my storage needs (maybe set up a mirrored RAID array with automated incremental backups) that's what I'll be using, I think.
