It's quite clearly a statement, and spoken with authority. There is a double bind here. Anyone with any intelligence must be English and would therefore not consider the song preposterous.

OMG - what's that? - Heavens, a haggis has just exploded outside my house. I'm just ringing the emergency services…

(1) The English are NOT the best. They are simply prone to self-deception.

(2) The English are NOT intelligent. They are simply prone to self-deception.

Your post illustrates these principles admirably. I rest my case.

Any more of this nonsense and one of my agents will be along to slap your face with an Arbroath Smokie and plant another explosive haggis or two!

"That's no lady, that's my wife!"

Sad)

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

You don't have to put up with those kind of threats.
I know someone who is English, is the best and is intelligent and would be more than willing to accept the punishment on your behalf.

The lady won't protest at all.

That's no way to speak of your Shiela - even if she does fancy an Arbroath Smokie with a chaser of exploding haggis!
