I am not usually a great fan of ballet dancing. But recently I received this advertisement for performances, and suddenly it looks rather interesting. (You don't need to understand the blurb!) (I reduced the resolution exceedingly to lower bandwidth.)

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

They seem rather intimidating to me! I don't think I'd like to meet them in a dark street... Smile

It's the suspenders that put me off. Give me the old fashioned ballet tights any day.

Hugs

In the hippie-dominated late 1960s, it was seriously suggested that there might be a future for nudity in serious dance. The notion was dismissed out of hand by the renowned Australian-born dancer, actor and singer (Sir) Robert (Murray) Helpmann, because -

"... you see, there are portions of the human anatomy which would keep swinging after the music had finished."

The real trouble with dancers is the overpowering sweat they work up!

The male dancers in the West-End production of "Follies" used to have a couple of quick-changes in the corridor under the stage just outside my office. The stench of a dozen over-exercised young men stripping down to their "supporters" in a confined space has to be experienced to be believed !

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. ... Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night devoid of stars." Martin Luther King

... too true! Especially while drinking Fosters from the bottle! It all goes to show how brilliant the Brits were in exporting potential Australians to Australia!

I am ancient enough to recollect that soon after he defected to the west Nureyev performed before the TV cameras in the UK. The following night a comedian (one Arthur Askey, if I correctly recall) mentioned this is his rather risqué routine. (Well, it was risqué for those days in the previous century.) His sidekick said: "Rudolph Nureyev was on TV last night. Didya see it?" Askey rolled his eyes and with a wicked grin replied "I should think everyone saw it!" (The 'it' was, of course a reference to what those ballet tights, so beloved of Nigel and Jedediah, revealed to the world.)

Here's a pic of Nureyev and 'it':

Even if one doesn't understand the "blurb" (and I don't), one thing's definitely for sure: it's a far cry from "The Nutcracker"!
