You may have read in another thread that Cossie recommended that I buy and read Dawkins' book "The God Delusion". Since Cossie's wish is quite often my command ( ) I ordered the book from Amazon (estimated date of arrival 22nd December - though I expect it will arrive before then).
Of course I shopped around. In the end I decided to order the book from Amazon US and not Amazon UK, even though the book is published in UK and the distance for postage is much less. However, the book, including cost of shipping and delivery, is $9.30 CHEAPER via Amazon US than the equivalent from Amazon UK (that's a difference of 4.76 pounds sterling for those who don't use $'s).
Same company, very different rates! Caveat emptor.
Even so, total cost to me: $25.83. So, Cossie, this had better be a damned good book!!!!!!!

... I must gleefully mention that I bought it for £10 during a half-price promotion at Borders Bookstore!
The UK cover price is £20, which isn't far short of $40 at today's exchange rate, so you're not doing too badly! The difference between UK and US prices probably reflects the recent slide in the value of the dollar; pricing hasn't caught up yet. It's a great time for Europeans to spend money in the US!
I'm glad that you display obedience to my wishes - any idea how I could contrive the same result elsewhere? Introducing the concept at home would be particularly useful!
Finally, I may have recommended the book, but not because it is 'good'; in places it patently isn't. In other places, however, I found it thought-provoking or even challenging. I doubt that you'll find it enjoyable, but it is well worth reading, nonetheless.

Amazon have done it again!
Originally, they said that the book would arrive by December 22nd. Later they revised their prognostication to January 17th.
The book arrived today, December 7th. Go figure. (I'm not complaining.)
Cossie, I start reading tonight.

You could have mentioned his name!
I've never heard of either the book or the film, but I certainly see what you mean regarding the leading actor:

Save the picture to disk, then start a new post, click "Browse" at the bottom, find it again, click "open", type in a message, then click "Submit" as usual. You need javascript turned on, I think. You can't do it by picture URL.
Sorry -- I'm in "anything to get away from work" mode; my dissertation has reached 10,500 words and is still growing rapidly, which is alarming, because there's supposed to be a limit of 10,000.

Considering you chose the legal profession, one that constantly has to write motions, petitions and assorted briefs, you really have to get a hold on writing essay documents.
The funny thing about legaleese essay writing is that you will continually be graded (read Judged here) on your writing but with the piece of mind that only your client will be flushed down the toilet if you fail.
Missing something blindingly obvious however... That is just plain wrong for an atorney... Fix that part ASAP!!!!

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

most of my work won't involve writing essays. thjere's a world of difference between writing an essay and writing a speech that i'm going to give in a court room before a magistrate. the latter i can do, and do well, and doesn't require the same research.
an essay requires research, mainly secondary, into academic writings, and basing your opinion over what has gone before. a speech on the other hand merely requires research into case law, which is easier, not to mention more interesting.
alas the for the essay i'm writing i've only had to cite 2 cases, and 4 pieces of legislation, the rest is all books articles and journals.
as for writing briefs and motions, not come across that yet, its not featured in a law degree (it'll come next year no doubt!) but i have one main thing to say on the subject
the lawyers bible! better known as the Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents.
i can only assume i'm missing something obvious. i don't know what it is, since if i did know, i'd have written about it. as far as i can tell, i've covered every angle i need to, and pay'd heed to some hints the lecturer has given, but even after all that i'm now 350 words short. it puzzles me. technically i'm inside my word margin now... but being so short does worry me.
time to go back to the research table and see if i can find something else to throw in. thats probably whats missing, not enough academic commentary on the subject. (which, if oyu're wondering is discrimination and disparity in sentencing, and the effect of sentencing guidelines)
