I hope you all had a very pleasant holiday.
A couple of days ago a man came to see me in my professional capacity. He is 35 years old. It came out in the conversation that he is "kind of" gay: he is not attracted to women and he is attracted to men. However, he is not interested in sex, but very much wants companionship and physicality - hugs and cuddles. He has tried the gay pubs and gay clubs in Tel-Aviv and "that's just not my style". I'm not sure whether or not this is relevant but he is 'searching' for some religious -Jewish - content in his life but would not describe himself as religious. He has gay friends who are religious and they cannot help him.
Despite everything I have written this guy does not strike me as being 'mixed up'.
Any suggestions how he might be helped?

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

There are alot of places (here where Kevy and I live) to go out and meet people socialy.
Here, we have a Gay Pride Association which is more or less (according to individual scheduals) the planning body for mixers and events throughout the year.
Your friend could look into whether there is some such similar group in the area he is from.
Origionaly, The group here began as an informal coffee social on Friday evening from 7 to about 9...... Perhaps there is something like that there as well.
The main thing is that there are always alternitives to hitting the bars.... and alot of gay people feel the bar scene is not really for them.
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

I’ve never been there, but Google tells me that the Israel Philharmonic and the New Israel Opera are both in Tel Aviv. In New York, such organizations have numerous groups of volunteers where you are likely to meet some of the types you are seeking – volunteers are always welcome to help out and many get free admission to dress rehearsals and the like. Also, secular art museums, fashion institutes. Good luck.
