Perhaps it's somebody's idea of a joke (at least, I hope it is!).
There are many "Deer Crossing" signs in my area (where civilization continues to encroach on their habitat), yellow diamond-shaped signs with a silhouette of a leaping deer on it. I have long harbored the idea of sneaking out in the dead of night to replace those deer silhouettes with brontosaurus silhouettes.

There is an explanation further down the page, though it's not an immensely convincing one to my mind. It's most amusing when you cannot even begin to see the logic.
