Hope this isn't a hijack but Hi Jack
I normally refill mine until they no longer work satisfactorily then go and buy a new printer (usually cheaper than buying new cartrdges)
Of course new printers usually come with half fill cartrides so you are meant to buy new ones fairly soon (how they get at you to make their money).
This is not a problem if you continue to refill after the changeover. It helps if you continue to buy the same brand printer so the refill ink is still compatible with new printer.
When you say you have used both over the years do you mean you refill them yourself or buy refilled cartridges (about half the cost of new ones)?
