Decide for yourself:

I am very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very sceptical [Americans read skeptical].

I think this will go the same way as the James ossuary. But it's fun reading.

Like JFR, I'm extremely sceptical about this claim. I suppose that it's human nature to try to link archaeological finds to real-or-mythical historical events. That's fine as long as there's no attempt to "improve" the evidence, nor to pretend that wild statements constitute proof.

It's not a discovery that is at all relevant to the kind of Christianity that I hold ... I've never believed in the literal truth of the "ascended into heaven" bit.

There's a whole non-biblical structure of veneration for all kinds of peculiar objects associated with different strands of Christianity (at one point in the Middle Ages, at least eight churches claimed to have in their possession the original Holy Foreskin, for example). If this claimed discovery is one that fits the needs of our time, no doubt it will gain adherents whether or not the claims are eventually accepted by the scholarly community.

Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.

Hey JFR, this might interest you : http://www.stuff.co.nz/3976382a10.html

There's a link to a video as well. Interesting that the coffins were displayed in New York - possibly because only the Americans would buy this BS ?

cheers
