I got that exact same email. I reported it as spam. You should do this before deleting them. Perhaps you will save others from getting the same piece of garbage in their mail. I hate spam, it's not even good with eggs!

Josh, I got it too. Just deleted it. But felt frustrated. I have reported spam for years and nothing changes. So I just delet them. Yes it takes up my time when I could be doing something else (what??? ha ha)but no one listens so I quit reporting and just delete. Sorry you and all your friends got this crap to deal with.

Reporting spam can only prompt the ISP to update its spam filters. It'll never stop it, because there's no way to block spammers from abusing the resources of other naive or legitimate people. It's high time that we scrapped the SMTP protocol and moved to a better one.

Since this spam has been received, it would seem, by everyone who is a registered user of this forum, this may have been where the email addresses were collected. This will always be a problem whenever you post your email address on the net. It is just something to accept I suppose. I guess I can live with it as long as it is just spam for the purpose of selling something and not some virulent virus being forwarded. Just maintain good firewall protection and keep your virus programs up to date. And be quick to post a warning here when something nasty is sent your way. We will just continue to do some mutual back scratching.

That's pretty certain - the address that I received this bit of spam on is one that I've only used on this site, and that only for the past few months. I think the couple of people from here who e-mail me from time to time have a different (permanent) address for me, so it is rather unlikely to have been a question of anyone's mail program having been got at by a virus.
It is one of the risks of being part of an on-line community: as always, mails where neither the subject nor the sender are familiar should be treated with suspicion!

The address was harvested by a bot. She is setting people up to lose money with her.
Guys, it is hardly worth discussing, except to publish "her" email address as a scammer and spammer.
these people are paid by gangmasters to send this stuff out. It;s a living.

Here is a thought. Why not spam the spammers? Save all the spam mail you receive in a special spam folder. Everytime you receive some new spam, forward all the other spam you've received to the bugger.
Har, Har! Perhaps eventually they will only have one another's addresses and can spend their time spamming back and forth!

Spammers almost always forge the addresses, frequently with the addresses of real people. I've had my address forged in the past, and it's bad enough getting a huge number of bounces, returns, "out of office" messages and so on without people sending me spam and abusive messages back about messages I never sent in the first place.
This is why email is so broken: anyone can forge anyone else's address!
The only occasional exception is the Nigerian scam, whereby the spammer actually wants you to reply. But they only make up a small percentage of spam -- almost all of the ones selling Viagra and related drugs are completely obfuscated and forged so that they can never be returned to the spammer. And if you do reply to an unforged address you can rest assured that your email address goes straight from the "not sure if this is a working address" list to the "guaranteed working and responsive" list.

A few years ago that might have worked. Spammers are organised gangs who use the spam as the source of a very lucrative income.
The best thing to do is to ignore them totally.

the address is "proven to be working" if it does not bounce, mainly. Best bet is to ignore them totally, as you say.

You can join SpamCop as a "spam reporter", and report spams. It is not entirely effective, but it is immensely satisfying.
