Roger,
It's fun to see how much energy that old man still has.
Carter seems to reiterate what he has already said, and he harvests criticism from exactly the corners you'd expect. Your standpoint is obvious , but how many other Americans listen to him? Is he outdated or is the propaganda from Fox News and the Republican Party strong enough to shoot down whatever he says?
Or are people so so tired of the present administration that they are looking for alternatives?

I think Carter is saying what a lot of people want to say. Carter was a gentle president and a lot of people liked him. This is unheard of. a retired president critisizing the current president. Bush has been steadily loosing points on the popularity scale. The republicans are in deep poo. They know everything has backfired on them. Carter just put in words what most people are thinking.

Roger, I am not an American and I know little about American politics. But I can't imagine that American politics are very different from what one can see in any 'representative democracy'. It doesn't matter how terrible a government/administration/party has been: it takes just one 'knight in shining armour' and the people will fall for him/her. It seems to me that both H. Clinton and R. Giuliani have all that is necessary to be a 'knight in shining armour'. Take heed, take care.
PS to all Britons: I don't think that Gordon Brown has what it takes to be a 'knight in shining armour', so he might just be an effective PM.
PPS. Israel has the most inept, ineffective and incompetent PM of them all. Any takers? Please. Pretty please. Going for less than free!

The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)
