Now, that is a question that has plagued mankind ever since the dawn of time.
That being the case, consider the implications of a chicken dropping an egg, which, in and of itself is a tasty delight that is by and large hard to equal; and extend that to consider that that very same chicken is a gastronomic treasure beyond belief....
granted.....
now..... would it be considered proper to combine both a chicken and an egg into the same dish?
Would that not be a form of poulrty genocide?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Ok, we need a vote here. Is chicken salid better with egg in it or not? I would almost bet we will see a dividon between people in the north and those in the south. Lets see how it plays out.;-D

In Darwinism, the egg comes before the chicken because the egg is the precursor to the "finished" chicken.
In Creationism, the chicken and egg are precursors of each other, so neither comes first
In Cookery I think placing egg and chicken in the same dish is overkill.

Cooked Egg in any kind of salad is utterly unbearable.
However, combine egg-yolk and nice olive oil for a real mayonnaise, and you have an essential accompaniment to green salads, chicken salad, tuna ...

One word- 親子丼 (Oyako-Donburi; literally "parent-child rice bowl").
Here's the recipe (and a picture) for those that can understand Japanese- it's delicious.

Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.

OMG... My head hurts... And I though that I could come up with some hum-dingers...
So now in my personal opinion I would have to say that the chicken came first, and I speak in terms of evolution. However, if this is the case was the egg not the next evolutionary step in the chicken, thus the egg would have come first.
I have no clue, I don't pretend to understand I just live here ;-D

In evolutionary terms, and taking the question literally, it was the egg. Reptiles had eggs long before they evolved into birds.
I don't think that's what Marc was asking, though.

providing the chicken is dead i can see no problem with the egg in the same dish, we eat steak and kidney, so why not chicken and egg, unless we get mad chicken disease.
but i would prefer snail in garlic.
life is to enjoy.

o.k. on a serious note, it is possible that many moons ago the chicken as we know it was probably a live bearer, as like some fish.
as time went on it became easier to lay an egg, so that we can store them better. no pun intended. )
life is to enjoy.

I had an egg for breakfast this morning, and am having chicken for a late lunch.
Therefore, the egg came before the chicken.
