Good goin' Braden! Friends are an important part of life and help make it fuller and more enjoyable. Each time you make a new friend the next one will come easier. Remember, with friends and everyone else in your life, treat them as you would like to be treated.
Have fun at the beach but try to find some shade! LOL

PS-My Dad had the same rule; if I was too sick for school, I was too sick for play.

I never had the "new town, new school" problem, but I can see the things that get in the way. All the groups are already formed, and "breaking in" is hard.
The answer is that you don;t need to break in, as you're finding.
Some of the folk you meet will turn out to be unpleasant in the end, that's normal, but most will be ordinary, and wanting to have you as their friend. It kind of starts out as an acquaintance, and moves to friendship as you return their overtures and they return yours.
I was given some good advice, once. It was for me as a little kid, ut it still holds good. Never ask "Will you play with me?" They will not. Instead ask "May I play with you?" Most times they will agree. Just change "play" to the verb of your choice. Something like "What do people do on Saturdays round here?" and when you find out, then decide if you want to join in, and, if you do, ask.
The beach sounds excellent. Now: "If he sits with me again". Go sit with him "Mind if I join you?" (Heck I have no idea how your school eatery works, but something like that should do it). "A couple of us are going to the beach on Saturday. Want to join us?"
