A random question --
Does anyone know where to find for free, or for <£10, a private-ish room in central London (tube-accessible) somewhere, to hold an audition for a film? (For half an hour or less, probably.)
It can be a moderately public place, but somewhere preferably where one is unlikely to get funny looks or be shooed away.
This week I'm able to use my university, which has a set of teaching rooms in Bedford Square, but at the end of the week they shut up shop for the summer.
Failing finding anywhere, there's always a park, I suppose ...

A friend has suggested music practice rooms. You'd have to pay, of course, but might be worth investigating.

"Students from other departments at King’s can use the Practice Rooms on the top floor of the Music Department (Rooms 2, 4 or 5 SWB) ONLY between 8-9am in the morning."
Gosh Deej, isn't that rather early in the morning to expect a decent turnout for your film? Is there any possibility they would allow you a later time slot ... or are the time schedules written in stone?
I hope the room is packed for you my friend. I would attend but it is a longish drive from the U.S. - and my car doesn't have a snorkle! ;-D

Probably not any use, that link -- can't remember why I posted it. I'm not a member of KCL, anyway (just the University of London), so they'd probably tell me to go away (even if they are open during the holidays).
I'm going to try ringing that practice room place on Monday. Not an obvious place to audition people, but better than a park.

Just a thought but perhaps you could turn to your own industry for some advice in this area.
http://www.filmmaking.net/ has a forum. Perhaps you could get a response there.
http://www.britfilms.com/whodoeswhataguidetothelabyrint/ is a list of organizations, agencies, services, guilds and etc for the British film industry. You may find someone to contact to give advice. Surely there are many people who were where you are now and would be willing to lend advice.
Shoot, someone may even have an office or space to lend.

I'll ask on Shooting People if I can't find an answer somewhere else (www.shootingpeople.org -- a British independent film community); however, my question on here was very casual, and I was specifically targeting those people who live in or around London (Timmy, NW, Nick) in case they knew of somewhere obvious.
All the 'proper' productions I've been involved in so far have had expensive London production offices with rooms available for casting. I have no doubt I could hire something like that too -- except there's no budget for it.
Someone in my university department will probably know where to start, so I'll go in tomorrow and ask. Academic contacts are likely to be the most friendly, as I'm still technically a student.
