The paradox has often been noted that the United States, founded in secularism, is now the most religiose country in Christendom, while England, with an established church headed by its constitutional monarch, is among the least. (Richard Dawkins, 2006)

Actually JFR, the religious climate in Jerusalem is not much different than many cities in the United States. Gay Pride organizers have to overcome tremendous pressures by right-wing fundamentalists. Outside of Moslem countries, the United States is probably the most homophobic nation imaginable. Wherever fundamentalist doctrines are prevalent, change is slow to take place. But we have to keep pushing the envelope. Change doesn’t take place in a vacuum. World-wide public opinion will eventually work in your favor. We can’t continue to be held captive to other’s religious or zealous bigotry.
