Someone who knows stuff about computers......I have this stupid thing on my desk top and can not get rid of it.
I got cable internet a few months back............and about 2-3 weeks ago this damn thing popped up on my computer. If I close it, it will close, then will pop right back up when ever I do anything...even if it is not internet related.
It is Search Lop.com...it is in the upper right corner of my desk top. If I right click on it...it gives me 2 options. 1-settings 2-About Macromedia Flash Player 6... Which if you pick on the..."about Macro....." it takes you to their web site. If you pick on "settings" another thing comes up saying "Allow local to access your camera and microphone" it has a place to pick "allow" or "Deny" which it is set on deny.
I have NOOOOO idea where it came from....I have not down loaded anything....I don't even know what this Macromedia thing is!!
It has Search Lop.com wrote real big and right under that you have....Favorites (if you pick on it, it brings down a large menu of things)....Search Web (a place where to type in a search).....MP3 Search (a place to type in the artist and title)....Email (where you log into your email)...I don't have an email account ....@lop.com
So if anyone knows how I can get rid of this can you plaese let me know....it is driving me crazy....coz ever since it got on my computer I get an Explore Error message all the time.
Thanks for the help!!
Brad

Are you using "Active Desktop"? (rightclick your desktop and see if "Show web contents" (OR something like that, not using english in my windows) is checked under "Active desktop". You could try unchecking it and then rightclicking your desktop, select "Properties\Web" and under "Show web contents..." Remove everything that sounds suspicious. If not possible check the properties and from there choose not to download page for offline viewing and from advance properties (or something) uncheck everyhting except "Follow links only to HTML pages" (or something). Also in properties you might define the disk space used by the page in to zero.
Hopefully this helps. If not Let us know and we'll try to figure something else out.

Hey Brad -
Lop.com has provided a couple of programs to
undo the settings changed via clicking various
options at their web site. Have a look at this
URL for further information:
http://lop.com/help.html - right down at the
bottom. They address search engine changes and
an accessory tool bar.
After you run the uninstaller available at lop.com,
reboot and then rename the following files:
desktop.swf,desktop.html [in ..\windows\web\wallpaper
and plg_ie0.dll [in ..\windows\applicationdata]
Here's a URL everyone might find helpful, especially
for those damned porn popups

If the uninstall did not work and you are running windows 98 at least there are options. Right click on the desktop icon. If it is a shortcut click on the properties tag. Note the target. Now open windows expoler(start->programs->[folder with magnyfing glass icon]) Goto the target location. Delete (wipe may be better if you have it) the target. Close windows explorer. Goto system info(start->programs->accessories->system tools->system information) Click on the tools menu. Double click on the internet explorer repair tool. If when you clicked on the icon it is not a shortcut, you should be able to just delete it. If you can't and you have wipe program you should be able to wipe it. If when you clicked on it you get the standard display menu, then it is a web link and you have active desktop going. If you want to keep active desktop, change you wallpaper, this should remove the link. If you want to keep the wallpaper it may be possible, but you will have to edit the html source code to delete this thing. Two free programs in addition to ad aware that you might want to get if you do not altready have them is zone alarm and surfing gaurd. If this did not help email me at parva_cassus@yahoo.com and I will see what I can do. Parva

If you still have the problem try this:
After your computer boots and “settles” and b4 u run any program press CTRL+ALT+DEL, the Close Program window will appear. This win lists all the running processes, if this thing you have is not a virus it will show-up as one of the names. The problem will be identifying it for its name could be anything and it may not even resemble the name on its popup window. Leave “Explorer” and “Systray” alone but close all the others and wait after each one to see if the popup win disappears. Once it’s gone click on Start -> Run and type “msconfig” and press Enter, this will run the “System Configuration Utility”. Click on the “Startup” tab and look for the name that matches the one you closed (by CTRL+ALT+DEL) earlier. If you find it clear its check box and press OK and yes when you are asked to re-start the system.
If this doesn’t work or you simply can’t find the name, post a reply here.

Thanks, I've been trying to remember the name of this. It comes on Windows 98 but I just tried it (the 98 version) on 95 and it seems to work fine. If I recall, I've seen SOME programs listed on MSCONFIG that DID NOT show up on the Ctrl-Alt-Del task manager, so this helped me eradicate a virus once-upon-a-time. Speaking of which, the virus ended up in the Recycle Bin but was still "alive" there, so I had to go out to DOS to change it's attributes and delete it from there. It was Hidden in the R.B. and also in the StartUp if I recall.
But, back to your specific problem, Brad, it sounds like this may be the LOP thingy which looks to be well discussed by Alie over at the vent board, if you haven't already gotten over there.

You’re welcome!
BTW, those programs you’ve seen in the Startup tab that don’t show-up when pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL are not what are called “resident” programs. Meaning they run at boot-up, do something or the other (usually a simple function) and then exit.
