Sixty five per cent of lesbian and gay pupils have experienced homophobic bullying

of those
98% of gay pupils encounter "gay" to be a derogatory term
91% of gay pupils have suffered verbal abuse and threats
41% of gay pupils have suffered violence
17% have received death threats

50% of teachers do nothing to intervene
30% of pupils say staff and teachers responsible for it!

the report, by the Schools Health Education Unit presented "a shocking picture of the extent of homophobic bullying undertaken by fellow pupils and, alarmingly, school staff"

You'd have to be an idiot not to know homophobic bullying existed in british schools, but these stats are horrifying

50% of teachers do nothing to intervene.

That means 50% of teachers DO do something. To me that is a positive to be gained from the report.

35% of gay students do not experience any bullying, either. That's also a plus.

The 17% of bullied gay pupils receiving death threats is a little more than I was expecting. 41% experiencing violence, too.

Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.
