I'm sorry, but I can no longer sit completely silent. This mad man we currently have as a president is sounding more and more like those he pretends are so evil that they must be destroyed. Do not get me wrong. Terrorism in any form is deplorable. And as such, should be rooted out and prevented. And anyone who thinks killing in the name of a merciful and beneficient God has obviously not read the book they claim to use as basis for their worship. Nor have they read history, philosophy, comedy, or anything remotely considered part of the "humanities," such as they are.
In a speach given on the day we use to remember our Independance (a day my honoured collegues across the pond refer to as their Thanksgiving day, only partly in jest), this brazen, dictatorial, self-righteous idealogue said, not in so many words, that his religion was better than someone elses religion and because of that he has the right to beat them up to spread democracy.
Does anyone else not see the utter absurdity in this? Christianity and Islam both profess to worship the same God, as does Judeaism. How can one be any more right enough to justify the genocide of another. Muslims, for the most part are very tolerant people if you remember the golden rule. Leave them alone and they'll happily go about their own business, which has been, for centuries, trying to kill each other.
Yet we waste the lives of our best and brightest, American, British, Australian, European, all of us, just to satisfy one crazy, delusional Texan's lust for battle glory in an age when we're supposed to be beyond such goals in our military campaigns. What happened to doing the honourable thing and just letting nature take its course?
I just don't see it, my brothers. Maybe I'm alone in thinking that this tin-pot dictator we elected (under rather dubious circumstances that I still question) to our highest office might be a little out of touch with reality and the depth and gravity of the situation he has plunged our world in. Maybe I'm just spouting off because I think that when you see something that is obviously wrong you should say something about it, before more lives are lost.
I just don't know anymore. Our young men, those that visit this site for advice and council should know that not every one of us feels the blind urge to follow the herd. They should look very carefully at the leaders we choose, not just for issues that affect us as gay citizens of the world, but for the truth behind what goes on behind the scenes on this our only planet.
Maybe all it takes is one or two eyes cast in the right direction to realize that following those who say killing for a God, a religion, or even some sort of personally glorifying ideal is exactly what it is: fascism of a kind that makes the Nazi's look like school children selling candy door to door to help finance a new gymnasium.
Then again, I'm a minority. I'm just one man. I'm just one voice. In order to penetrate the rhetoric and sophisticated ideology applied here might just need a choir of those that look to the light and question it, and not just go blind in its radiance.
What do you think?
It's not the wolf you see you should fear, but all the ones he howls with. Don't be afraid of the song, but don't piss off the choir.

Rant, vent, rage....
It doesnt matter one iota...
He is there until he is no longer there... We knew that when he was elected the first time and there was problems with the vote count.
The second term was just the same...
The fact is that monsters they are but they are monsters because those with the power to prevent it are far too complacent to get off their collectlve assas and go to the polls.
To worry about him now is as pissing into the wind.... it sucks until things turn around.
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

Sigh....
Too true my friend. Far too true. Although, personally speaking, I prefer not pissing into the wind. You get less mess that way. If only our leaders weren't so headstrong and cocksure as all that.
Or is that the other way around?
I have always believed that when you listen to the world, when you pay attention to nature, things are at least slightly better understood. Maybe that's what we should hope for. That our leaders stop hitting the talking points and actually listen to themselves and the world for a while. Perhaps then the madness will stop.
We can at least dream that, can't we?
It's not the wolf you see you should fear, but all the ones he howls with. Don't be afraid of the song, but don't piss off the choir.

Dreaming is good.....
But as long as there are politicians that are in office only for their own self gratification there will be bad politics.
It seems that the smaller the man (inside) the worse the politician.
Stop and think of what good chances we both as a people and the global community have missed because of low grade morons like our president as well as the power base that controls him.

I love and agree with your description "brazen, dictatorial, self-righteous idealogue"! Even knowing/accepting the accuracy of those words doesn't make it any easier to comprehend his actions or words. The fact is he lives in a "reality" that is far different from that of the average American which makes it impossible for him to be "in touch" with us. He is in touch with only those who share his reality.
He is amoung a group of people who believe that their brand of religion, their brand of Christianity, their way of life, their way of thinking is the only "right" one and those who are different must be saved (re changed), shunned or eliminated. Thinking not so far from the radical Islamist attitued towards infidels.
Don't be mistaken, though, this is not about religion but about intolerance. At a time of growing tolerance throughout the world the extremely conservative and the extreme fringes of various religious groups want to reverse this natural flow and dictate our thoughts and actions. Witness the influence of the extreme right Christians on the Republican party and US politics in general; and consider that the failed "Contract with America" the Republicans presented us was just the beginning of a far more comprehensive agenda to achieve their (re religious right's) goals.
I only disagree with your description as "tin-pot dictator"; I really think it should be "silver-spoon dictator". Through his family's wealth and influence this man really has never had to deal with his failings before now. Now he is in the top job, the top seat, surrounded with people providing him with unimaginative, narrow-minded advice and no one to "bail his ass out". The biggest failure of a president in my nearly 60 years.
I encourage you to vent your frustration and express your feelings. For one, it is the American way; and secondly, someone might hear you and be influenced. The more who recognize the falacy and failures of this man the longer before we make the same electoral mistake.

I agree with everything that has been said, but if I may I’d like to throw a little more into the mix for thought.
I feel very strongly that most of what we see of our leadership is mostly smoke and mirrors, slight of hand. What IMO, that makes all that has transpired politically over the past near 7 years so totally evil is that the apparent powers that be, don’t really believe what they profess, they are just using a small minority of peoples fears and prejudice to insight a kind of mob mentality over a broader swath of the population. Their use of this subtle form of terrorism is all the more heinous in that is only being used for the enrichment of a minority. If you will, the real government, the puppet masters that pull the strings, the deep pockets we can not readily identify.
I only hold small hope in what we as a people can do in the polls as Marc said. That being said shouldn’t we be talking about our coming options that we will have in 2008? Sorry but what I see at this point doesn’t give me much hope that we can turn the tide to a great degree. Though I don’t think it is so much that we will not have sweeping changes in our Executive branch and two house, I just don’t see a significant difference between the two at this point. Only in whose cronies will be pardoned for their crimes.
The thing that disturbs me beyond all of that is how the Supreme Court has been stacked, and there, we have no recourse at the polls.
As I said, I am not with out hope. I just wonder if 5th Avenues hold on the hearts and minds of the population as a whole can be broken…. Better tow the line boys or that Beamer you sold your soul for is out the door!

Us and Them
(Waters, Wright) 7:40
Us, and them
And after all we're only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do.
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died.
And the general sat and the lines on the map
moved from side to side.
Black and blue
And who knows which is which and who is who.
Up and down.
But in the end it's only round and round.
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
The poster bearer cried.
Listen son, said the man with the gun
There's room for you inside.
"I mean, they're not gunna kill ya, so if you give 'em a quick short,
sharp, shock, they won't do it again. Dig it? I mean he get off
lightly, 'cos I would've given him a thrashing - I only hit him once!
It was only a difference of opinion, but really...I mean good manners
don't cost nothing do they, eh?"
Down and out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about.
With, without.
And who'll deny it's what the fighting's all about?
Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind.
For the want of the price of tea and a slice
The old man died.
[Updated on: Sat, 07 July 2007 20:08]
People will tell you where they've gone
They'll tell you where to go
But till you get there yourself you never really know
Where some have found their paradise
Other's just come to harm
