It's often possible to pick up which country people hail from by the language they use, and when they generally post (time zones, etc.). People also sometimes put their locations in their profiles.

I haven't counted, but historically the proportions of regular posters have been something like:

1/3 from the UK
1/3 from the US or Canada
1/3 from everywhere else (Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Israel, others)

At the moment I think there are probably more Americans here than British people, but that's because people are always coming and going. Timmy is from the UK, of course.

I'm glad you find us intelligent and worthy of your time. I might suggest that if there is a gulf between you and your "friends" that you search out other friends. That will likely happen as you get older and go your own ways. I found that few of my school friends remained when I went to college, and those that did changed along with me and in the same ways that I did.

You actually have begun that process by joining and participating in this forum. But I understand that you also need friends physically close to you. Be patient and work towards finding friends that fit into your life better.

While you are in Utah, you might give the book Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey a read.

Hi kek, Southern Idaho here. Though I was born and raised in Utah. I know there's not a lot of love for gay kids there - it's against doctrine. :-/

In all honesty, there isn't a whole lot of communication of any kind in Utah. Excommunication would be a step up. Ex-Utahn is even a better step up! Smile

yeah, its really difficult and i cant stand it, mormons act so innocent but they are so judgemental i have no problem sayin this because i am one but during church i want to just stand up and yell "what the hell is wrong with you, all you talk about is how you pesterd someone until you mold thier already ok lives into something you think you made better but just created a harder future for them.

My whole family were converts, except for me and my brother who were kind of born into it. Thankfully my whole family has basically seen the light and left the church. It's so much easier and better being secular, away from those judgemental hypocrites. 18 years of my life was way too long, I don't regret it, it gave me a good ethical foundation, but I'm so glad to be out.

my Father claims that if you think about it crishtions they think they can be so moral and non-judgmental but why are there so much problems between them and other religions, the only religion that seems to not get involved is budism and branches of budism who feel no need to get involved and feel no need to express negativity towards others or in exterminating a religion, religion is a mutal choice and should be left to the one who makes it, should you really want to kill someone for their choice of what you believe will be eternal life, maby mormonism started out right and somewhere along the wat drifted into what we have now. maby there is no deity but nothing can explain how everything was created not time or space or matter and i among many others ask... " well...how did god become, and those before him, and those before them" sorry for my deep thoughts but i had to get them out somewhere...if i mentioin these subjects in church they are quickly dismissed and changed or i am accussed of disrupting.

My discussions at church were often dismissed, too. It's hard being smart in a church full of dumb people. It's hard when dogma is more important than logic.

I'm an Atheist now, not because I'm gay, but I'm an Atheist because I think it is the most logically, ethically and philosophically sound choice.

I'm still spiritual, I still respect and revere the world around me. I still try and live a good, moral life. But I don't need a god to tell me how to revere life, or how to be a good person. I can make those own decisions myself. It's empowering to be free to "worship" whatever or however I choose. Because life is wonderful and worthy of worship. I like being individual. I don't need to have the same beliefs as everyone else just to feel like a "good person".

Personal spiritual gives choice and freedom, without dogma. And freedom is always a good thing.

Yeah I am in the USA in Minnesota. Yes, also in the town where the freeway bridge collapsed a few weeks ago. We had 12 die in that one but last week we got about 18" of rain in places in southern Minn and that I hear resulted in about 20 deaths, but I am not so sure of that figure.
BTW, a friend living in Australia said they had 713mm rain in just a few days last week. It flooded a lot there too. Normal for the month of Aug is about 200mm I guess.

We all need a release from our emotions sometimes. There's nothing wrong with occasional irrational behaviour. Not everything we do makes sense. It's hard to find a release for emotions when you're trapped in a situation. Do you do any sports, or have any hobbies? I was never good at sport, but I found that being physically active helped keep my head on straight. Even if you're bad at sport if you can do something physically active (maybe even a martial art) it can help keep you happier.

i do no sport but i often work out by myself and meditate, i take midnight strolls every night and that does make me feel good but when i take my 10" knife out to play and walk with me i feel creepy but i do it for the knife i dont give him enough attention and he likes to play in the dark, and then i feel creepy when i drop in a dark empty parking lot and start to meditate, i dont fear the dark and if im out with friends i scare them all by running into a dark ally laughing, im just creepy i guess:-/
