All it does is place bad thoughts in my head.
They frighten me.
Life is great for me... Most of the time... But then I meet people online... Very few are real friends... Many say they are but know nothing of what it means... Some say they are, but are so shallow...

You should buy a puppy. Not quite the same as human company, but fluffy little puppies make everyone happy.
Look at this tree. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me nor make it bear fruit before its time [...] No matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach.

means.
Marc my comments were not meant to be offensive.
This statement is widely used in London & Essex where i live, we say sort your head out, or get your head sorted. What it means is come on sort it out.
I do read your posts and i understood that you had gone back to college had started writing a book and had faced up to the demons from when you were a young person.
Please be aware i do not need or have the time to be offensive to people who i do not know, you are in the states, your words have different meanings, so you do have to have the ability to read between the lines, and as a mature person be seen not to over react& influence younger people in the wrong direction.
if you still think it is offensive then all i can do is appollogise. i will leave you to correct any spelling errors.
life is to enjoy.

.......Life's too short, I've heard "getting sorted out" and I understood what you meant, I didn't take the phrase as insulting, you probably should have expounded on that post though, as by itself, I can see how it was taken.

In Australia we use "get your head sorted", but even to me what you said was quite rude, Jack. Or at the very least, tactless.
Just because someone is in a better place overall recently doesn't stop them from having down days or times. Yeah, Marc's head has been more sorted recently, but it's hardly a black and white distinction.
I don't really see how your tactless assumption can be taken as anything but offensive? It defies all the social norms I know and really I'd personally think it is something that would require an apology...

jack said,
>if you still think it is offensive then all i can do is appollogise
The level of offence is never judged by the person who says something, but by the person who is offended -- backed up by the consensus. In this case I think the consensus says you were offensive. I don't think a disclaimer that it was not meant to be makes any difference.
>Please be aware i do not need or have the time to be offensive to people who i do not know
The implication of that sentence is that you cannot be bothered either to try not to offend people from other backgrounds or who may not think exactly like you. What a terrible admission.

Being offensive is something that happens if you don't bother to take care with your words. (I know through painful and embarrassing experience of my own.) If you don't have the time to be deliberately offensive, it implies that you don't have the time to make sure you are not inadvertently offensive, either. Being inadvertently offensive can often hurt other people just as much as being deliberately so, and I would regard it as almost as bad.

Honestly, it's like nothing on this board can ever be taken at face value. I know that many of us have a tendency to assume there's something between the lines to read, but did it truly not occur to anybody that perhaps "got your head sorted" may just have been an idiom from jack's area?
I understood you, jack. And I'm American and everything, so it ain't as simple as "two countries separated by a common language."
