The Department for Children, Families and Schools has issued guidance to schools in England and Wales on how to tackle homophobic bullying. It's on line at http://www.teachers.gov.uk/_doc/11911/HOMOPHOBIC%20BULLYING.pdf

Long overdue, and (by some) eagerly awaited, it makes an interesting read. I certainly don't agree with everything in it, but I think it is a good effort to address the problem.

I know we've got people here still at school, as well as those who have been teachers or worked in schools - I wondered what others think of the guidance. (it's a long read: the exectutive summary at the start makes most of the important points for those who can't face 140 pages! )

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. ... Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night devoid of stars." Martin Luther King
